Replace gasket??

Hi Dave,

I have run about 2 gallons through my FZ 140 and im going to check the valve clearance's, is it usually necessary to replace the valve cover gasket when this is done?

Thanks in advance

Lee

You can probably pop the cover off without tearing the gasket since it doesn't have much running time. Warm the cover up with a hair dryer prior to removal.

Silly question from my side...

Does a slightly damaged gasket affect the performance of the engine (adjusting the valves I have damaged it a bit)?

My 63S was running in top condition for more then 200 flights but it beggins to have a very rough transition. I have tryed to fiddle a bit with the pump but with no result. Any suggestion?

As long as the gasket doesn't leak you are OK, but if it leaks the engine will not run properly.

The 63 may need to be taken apart and the de-carboned after that many flights depending on the fuel you use. Sometimes the exhaust valve gets carbon buildup to the point of having problems.

How long since you changed the glow plug?

Dave you are a pro!!!

We have taken apart the valves and the exhaust one had a strong carbon build up. We have grinded (polished or whatever is the right english term) with smooth valve grinding compound now it works again super.

I usually change the glow plug after 25 or so flights. Is that ok?

NOT A PRO, JUST A GOOD GUESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad the 63 is back in order.

I would not change a plug until the engine won't idle or transition properly. Any sooner is a waste of money.
