If mine doesn't run the next time I try to maiden my VF extra 300,,,mine will be for sale. I've run almost a gallon through it and haven't flown it yet. I don't need the agravation it creates.:)

I've had mine since June and haven't flown it yet for one reason or another. Last time out it wouldn't run long enough to take off. Put it back on the bench and set it back to factory, got it to transition ok so remounted it on the plane. If it doesn't run it will be available for sale.

And while I have your attention; will running it without the muffler hurt it? I'm trying to use just an extension due to constrictions. Will too many filters cause runability problems? I have these; one in tank, each tee, crap trap.

Filters won't hurt, nor will the exhaust issue you seem to have. If the thing doesn't run right, either sell it to someone who will send it in and get it fixed, or send it in and get it fixed yourself. Some 110's had regulator problems, and if yours is one of these, you won't be able to fix it yourself, and no amount of adjusting will help.

Well I finally got to fly it today, the VF x300 that is. The engine seemed to run ok. I took off and at about 50ft up the plane did a roll. I tried to get it level again and it rolled again. I pulled it up and it climbed but did another roll. I pulled the throttle back to idle and tried to loop back to my position but it just rolled and went in straight down. The planes a total loss. The receiver broke so I can't test it to see if it was the problem. I sure didn't have any control of it. The engine broke two fins just below the valve cover. Two spots about 3/16 long. That seems to be the only damage to it. All my digital servos seemed to have survived also.

Anyway,,, it wasn't the engine, it ran fine. Guess I'll keep it for now. Only bright spot this evening is that my G26 ran like a watch on my Jerry's Big Boy today,,, for a change. When it runs good, it's a joy to fly!

You're right there Dave. I don't think the engine's hurt, but I'm gonna use a indicator to make sure the shaft isn't bent. It went straight it like a lawn dart and it did break one end of the prop off. It just broke two small 1/8" pieces of fin just under the valve cover. I didn't have my Tru Turn spinner on it thank goodness, just the lock nuts. The ground was soft (hay field). So,,,,, whats the odds it's hurt,, if, the shaft isn't bent? I mean, even if the shaft isn't bent, could there be damage inside. I know you can't give me a "for sure" answer, just "from experience" kind of response.

Oh, I forgot to post the question I came on line to ask. I probably won't use the engine till spring. How should I prep it for storage for that long?

I doubt that you hurt it. Do you have anyway to run the engine on a test stand or another airplane? If so, do it before putting it away for the winter. Then if it is damaged, you can send it in now and not worry about repairing next spring.
