Prop test
 

Dave,
I am interested in purchasing a DZ 140. However, I can't find anyone who has run low pitched props on this engine. I want to stay with a 6 pitch (preferably), or an 8 pitch as max. You have replied that you have no experience using these low pitch props on the DZ. I know, I know, anything that keeps the engine in the low to mid 8000's. :rolleyes: Problem is, I don't know what 6 - 8 pitch prop will do this. :confused: If I sent you a Pro Zinger 18x6 and 20x6, would you be willing to test these on a DZ and report your findings? I have seen several others on RCU wondering the same about low pitch props and the DZ, it might benefit you to have the information. ;)

I'd be happy to do the test for you, but since our altitude is 5000 feet ASL here the numbers will vary somewhat. I do know of a guy running 20x6 Zingers with good results.

Dave, Thanks for the quick response. You are correct, I am at about 800 Ft. ASL, so your numbers would be quite different from mine. What about the guy you mentioned. What altitude is he at, and what RPM readings is he getting. Any chance I can get in touch with him? :)

He's at altitude just like we are. I gave you some wrong info. It's a 20x6 Master Airscrew wood prop on 30% CP heli fuel. Works ok but I think it's a little overloaded. As I said in another thread, I think it's a lot worse to overload these engines than run them a little on the fast side. The mid 8000 range can be exceeded on the low pitch props for fun fly type airplanes because you don't run them fast for extended periods. I would not be afraid to run these at 9500 or better for short periods.
