Spits the injector out?

Do you mean the black plastic check valve? or do you mean the brass tube that is pressed into the head?

On the black plastic check valves you can run the 160 and 170's without this part. If will make the same power and perform the same. The purpose is to prevent air from getting in the fuel line when the engine is at a prolonged idle like during a spin. If you throttle up too quickly then the air bubble can make the engine surge. So the black plastic check valve keeps the air from passing from the valve cover area into that injector fuel line.

My personal opinion is never take that check valve off the engine unless you are going to replace it. The body is plastic and it presses on the fuel nipple on the head of the engine. To take it off means you are damaging the plastic. Its like a fish hook. Goes on, but pulling it back off against the barbs will damage it. If it leaks air you will have a mess of trouble and could hurt your engine with a lean run.

Like I said you can run the motors without this check valve. It will make the same power but could burp after a long idle if you gun it too fast. This could hurt the engine over time if you consistently do that. Its running lean when it surges like that.

If the brass nipple and tube is coming out of the head of the engine then I would say you need a new head its not suppose to do that.
