No compression on YS63
Hi Dave,
I just installed a brand new YS63 on my Flip 3D, and was surprised it had no compression right out of the box. Well, maybe it's missing oil and fuel in there to seal the gap, so I went ahead with the break-in. I since then had a couple flights on it, still too new to say yeah or neah, pulls the plane OK but still no compression!! I can turn the prop with my pinkie, I can't barely feel when it's going through the compression! That's a big departure from my 140 that make your wrist hurt when you turn it! Is that normal? Ben |
No compression on YS63
Better check the valve clearance. Sounds like one or both are too tight.

No compression on YS63
Yeap, that's pretty obvious! Either that or I forgot to put a glow-plug in! ;>)
I'll do that one of those days and report back. Thanks for the help. Ben |
No compression on YS63
Yeap, the intake valve was too tight and therefore not closing properly. Funny that the engine still ran relatively fine but now that I think of it, it was missing some of the 'umpf' I was expecting. Guess I shouldn't have listen to the instructions which said that the valves were adjusted from the factory, right?
It now works perfectly on the ground, is OK for the first 4' in the air, then quits on me while I was hovering my Flip 3D 6' off the ground, landed inverted and broke the rudder, no big deal. I was using some 3 year old YS20/20 PowerMaster fuel, using the normal 14x?? wide APC prop that everyone is using. I will try some 30% new heli fuel next time and see if it's better. Maybe overheating as well (Florida heat is coming!), although I removed the cowling to prevent that when it stopped, so that's out of the way. Any other ideas? Thanks Ben |
