3D Prop for YS 1.40FZ

Hi,

I was wondering what some opinions are on the best 3D prop for the 140FZ. I know the specs say to use up to a 16 x 11 prop, but I would prefer more diameter and less pitch. Could I use something like a 17 x 6 or an 18 x 6? I live at sea level.

Thanks,

Chris

It will be very dependant on the fuel you choose and the condition of your engine. Also prop choice is very model dependant.

To keep the engine happy run it between 8400-8800rpm on which ever prop you choose. For 3D stay toward the 8800 rpm number. This will load it less and help it spool up and down faster.

A 17-6 might be Ok choice, not sure on the 18-6. But it all depends on what your model likes. Then its up to the engine and how it will turn it given your choice in fuels.

Hi

Some info for you

I had a 140 FZ running on coolpower 30% heli fuel, in a 74 inch Yak 54, with a 18x6w prop turniing at 8,200rpm which had bags of power.

p.s. I am also at sea level.

8200 is an Ok number.

Persoanlly I think its a little too much load...Maybe try a 18-6 rather than the "W" version...

The 8200 is not bad just I would bet you could get the motor to be a little happier at about 300-400 more RPM.

The higher loads and low rpms tend to put higher stresses on the parts. When the engine fails it usually has bigger problems than when its run at slightly less load.

I would say that 8200 is not bad but its just a little on the low side of the range. Treated properly this will not harm the engine...but running it out of fuel or continued hovering and slow speed high alpha stuff will cause it to get a little hot and possible increase the risk of failure.
