YS 63 Muffler
 

Love my YS 63 on my TopCap, but today I lost my muffler assembly. Where can I order a replacement? I used loctite to hold it on, but it still came loose? Any suggestions on securing my next muffler?

Hey,

I had a similar problem and solved it with JB Weld.

It is an epoxy based adheasive but can take the heat of the extremely hot exhaust. It is a permanent bond so plan on being able to pull the cowling or engine out without having to remove the muffler.

You can buy JB Weld at any automotive shop.

Read here that someone used teflon tape on a 91FZ I believe. I'm using the stuff on my 63. I can't seem to find a wrench skinny enough to tighten the muffler and header locknuts so I could only handtight. The muffler and the header are still on tight.

I use Teflon Plumbers tape on my YS 63 with stock muffler, and my YS 1.40 DZ with a Performance Specialties nipple and muffler. It works great, both have stayed on tight. I use about 3 - 4 wraps on the threads at both the exhaust outlet and the muffler joints.
For tightening I ground down an old 14MM (I think right size) wrench thin enough to tighten the lock nut to Muffler flange.

What I do is I loosene one screw that holds the muffler together and wrapp the screw with some extra pull pull wire. Then I take the rest of the wire and wrap it around a screw attached to the fuse and then I tighten the screws down.

Teflon tape is the way to go. YS, Saito, OS anything; fix and forget. Never lost a muffler installed this way; even good for installing headers; the only way. Good for using the same teflon a couple of mufler or whatever openings; then replace the teflon. For best results replace the teflon tape every time there is a need to open the joint.

Squareloop....if you are still looking for a wrench to fit the nut on the muffler try your local bike shop. They have very thin wrenches for gear sets and the like.
