Storage
Troy:
I have a number of typical 2 strokes in storage. I usually pull the muffler, plug, tie a string around the whole thing and drop it into a bucket of WD40 (2 gallons or so), and pop the lid on. This has worked well over the years for 2 strokes, what about YS 4 strokes? Will the WD effect the seals/rings etc? Perhaps it would be better to just give them a bath in castor oil and seal it up in a zip lock? |
RE: Storage
Don't even come into the same room with WD 40 and a YS engine!
Any petroleum based product will destroy the silicone seals and silicone parts in the regulator of a YS engine. For storage, its best to run the engine dry at low throttle only. Drain the tank and keep starting the engine until it will not even pop. Then put a small amount of all synthetic oil in the carb and turn it over to pull the oil through the engine. A few drops of Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W-20 works or a better product is the Ultra Oil sold by Dave Shadel at Performance Specialties. This is a little thinner oil and works well. Once the engine is lubed up, connect the regulator line together, ( fuel supply to the pressure line in the front, and place it in a zip-lock bag. The Castor oil will thicken up and turn hard and crusty before the Mobil1 or the Ultra oil will. SO I recommend using these synthetic oils instead. Troy Newman Team YS |
