I'm currently running my DZ at 2 1/4 turns on the top end needle and trying to lean it out.

17 x 12 APC
30% Cool power heli
Enya #3 plug

At 2 1/4 I'm getting 8-8100rpm, 26-2700 at idle. Trying to get down to 2300, idle gets a little rough but doesn't quit. Tried to lean the top end, went down to 1 1/2 turns and rpms dropped to 7000 and I gave up. Tried leaning regulator and engine wouldn't start. So I went back to my previous settings. Regulator is about flush.

I'm wondering if I should richen the regulator and then try leaning the top end? Set top end first, then idle? What would be a realistic idle with this prop?

Thks.

The DZ does not have a regulator, it has a fuel pump and is completely different from all the other YS engines. Try doing this:

Screw the pump screw in about 1 or so turns. (or leave it alone until you change the glow plug)

Lighten the load on the engine by dropping the prop size a little.

Get rid of the ENYA plug and put an OS F in it.

Let me know how it works out!

Finally got an OS F plug and gave it a try.

Pump is about 1 1/2 turns in from flush. High needle is now at about 1 3/8 turns open turning a 16.5x12W at 8600 with an acceptable idle around 2200.

Temp is 66, 45% humidity at 1100' elev.

It seems whatever you do with the pump your ownly adjusting the high end to match it. The engines seemed quite happy at about any setting of the high end needle in the air, even when it was over 2 turns with the leaner pump setting.

It's easy to get one too lean in the air. Make sure it always blows a big trail especially in the verticals.
