YS engine with a MK Floating beam mount.
 

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in the ' MK Floating Beam mounts ' ?

I fitted a patton model powered with a YS 63 with this mount. On the third flight it broke in flight I replaced the rubber gator mounts, and it happend again, this time lasting one flight. [>:]

I understand the corners of the aluminum straps should be rounder off, where they meet the rubber gator, how tight should they be ?

One problem I have is the instructions are in Japanese, would anyone be able to translate them please ?

Over the past few years I have tried the Dave Brown version of this mount on a YS 91 and 110 without ANY luck, even with brand new rubber isolators. The rubber allows the engine to move so much that it has even broken the 'glass fuse on my plane. I just don't think they are able to stand up to a YS 4 stroke. 2 strokes, yes, no real problem even with an OS 140. Other pilots who have used both mounts say there isn't enough difference to matter with a YS 4stroke.

I'm going to try getting rid of the mount and get 2 pieces of hard polyeurathane rubber and mount the engine on top of this, screwed to the wood beams. Other pattern guys have tried soft silicone rubber and say it fails quickly, also.

Hello Roy,
Have used the aluminum mount made for the OS FS91II for mounting YS FZ 110S; provides very stable mount (to date). Fortunately, the predrilled, pretapped mounting holes in the beams of this mount (purchased originally for OS FS91II) match perfectly with mounting holes for YS FZ 110S.

The Conquest has a VERY tight nose and belly pan, and no way that I can see to remove the wood beams to put any other type mount in there. I think I will try either semi-rigid mounting, or switch back to a 2 stroke to avoid the issue.

That type mount is what is being used, but with the VERY tight nose and belly pan, any movement is too much. I had thought about going electric, but can't see any way to put a battery in the right place for the CG. Looks like semi-rigid mount or 2 stroke is the way to go. Funny isn't it? That's what the plane was designed for in the beginning. Sometimes designers may not be so dumb...With all due respect to Dave Patrick.

Mike,

if you need to use MK type mounts, look for Go model in Japan. it works a whole lot better.
My Pilot Beat On 90 has more than a couple hundred flight with original parts.
