YS 110fz idle problems
 

I have a YS110fz that has had about 1.5 gallons of fuel through it.

Running a 17 x 4W prop, my high end peaks at 9500, so Idrop that down to 9200. Around 4000 it runs real smooth without any surging, I have adjusted the regulator slightly and the mid to high transition is good. My problem is that I can't get it to idle. On the ground it will idle fine and then just quit, but sometimes it seems just fine until Iget in the air. Every time Iidle down, it dies. I have adjusted the air bleed screw in and out, sometimes it gets better, but it's never good.

I'm running powermaster YS20/20 fuel. Could it perhaps just be too much prop in the air?

 I use that prop also with no problems, when you are at power and cut power to idle fast, once it gets to idle, does it stays there, or increase RPM a little or loose RPM's then quit?</p>

I think it holds idle for a little bit and dies. I would fly for a bit and then cut to idle as Iturned to land, would always be a deadstick. Makes it hard to 3D when you can't trust the motor, he he!

It's hard to do anything when you can't trust your motor.

I just started working with my YS110. The instructions Igot were just like you mentioned, peak idle, drop to 4000 and adjust reg, then drop to idle and adjust low end.

Did you use a tachometer? In checking yesterday, my low end held steady for about 20 seconds, then finally started surging. So make sure you are using a tachometer and giving the engine time to develop it's habits. Iam going to guess you are rich, somewhere. Check everything again with a tach, giving each step time to develop habits and burning off extra fuel and let engine cool between steps.

How long will it idle before it dies? Does it just suddenly quit, or does it speed up or slow down first? An air leak in either the air box or the vave cover can cause your symptoms. Have you had the valve cover off to adjust the valves? If not, it's time to adjust them, then use a new gasket and don't over tighten the screws.

At 1.5 gallons it should be pretty well broken in. It may just need a littlebit more time possilbly. My suggestions if you have followed proper tuning recommendations would be:

1. Check the valves
2. Check your glow plug and consider moving the element out a "tad" using a #11 blade
3. Try running some 30%

  If holds a bit then dies is lean, try closing the low needle valve and open it 1/2 turn, richen the regulator 1/8, and use Coll Power High Perf heli 30% until the engine is reliable, then go back to 20%.</p>

I use a feeler gauge from Autozone.

Use a feeler guage to measure the clearance, get one at any auto parts store. For wrenches, I use Craftsman metric ignition wrenches, like these http://cgi.ebay.com/CRAFTSMAN-10-PIE...3A1%7C294%3A50
