Default Brushless setup for all mini's

I wanted to start a thread for people to discuss which brushless setup is best for thier vehicle and why. I think people all want alot of speed. I see 40mph to 90mph. I also see kv ratings and kt ratings. I would like to be informed about those thing too. I would like to know what amp the speed controler is and the battery type. Li poly seems to be the way to go but how many cells? amperage on speed controlers seems to make a diference too? I would go through and sort the replies by car and we could see which ones sound the best for us individually. I would also see if i could get definitions and exlanations on these subjects before starting the section also. motor, esc, amps, ect.

So if u could just list your: model, motor name with kv, kt, esc with amperage , batt typ, # of cells, and top speed to the best of your estimation and if it is quick off the line or does complete flips on its back.

Rodgermoore2001--
i have a hpi micro rs4 with a standard esc and motor. The car is very fast for its size and I have a 2000mah lipoly pack to make it run about 30% faster and 50% longer.

Rodgermoore2001--
I also have a duratrax mini quake and it is completeley stock and i use a a 2000mah li poly batt for 30% more speed and power and 50% longer run times. the truck seems to grind some teeth though so i have been leary about upgrading the motor. The truck whips and handles great though.

I have a brushless mlst with a mamba 25A controler with a wraith motor(7000 rpms/volt) It runs 30mph with a 2 cell 1900mah lipo batt. even with a ball diff in the middle it pulls wheel stands from the take off. I get around 20 mins of run time. I also have a xxx-t mf2 with a mgm compro 120Amp speed control with a feigao 380c 8t( 4900 rpm/ volt) motor. I use 7 cell matched ib 3800 and it gets around 45+mph( I havent had time to get the gps to test real speed) with 15+ mins run time( it will flip onto it back even running around 20 mph if you grab full throttle). I am going to run 12 cell to see what it will run(need to get the gps from my brother)

I run a RC18T factory team. i use the tekin 6.8kv system which has a 25 amp esc. i run a 1500mah 2s lipo (20c) and a 1200mah 3s lipo (20c). to the best of my knowledge that truck runs about 45mph with the 3s and 11/60 gearing, with the 2s it does about 35 with 13/60.

Yea....but Im changing it, too powerful, especially with a 3 cell li-po for this vehicle.

cant you just program the esc to limit the power or something? or will that just make it inefficient and take away your runtime...

RC18T w/Mamba 25esc & Mamba 5400KV. I used TP 1320 3-Cells. Gearing is the stock 14 pinion and 60 spur. I currently have the MT tires on it. Ive used the losi and AE as well. I prefer the extra ground clearance of the MT tires. Ive tried other gears combos and this seems the best for torque and crazy speed, Top speed.....plenty-o-fast. Fast enough that at the top its very unstable, if you can keep it on the wheels or have the room to run it. It gets hard to see pretty quick. From the standing start if you give it full throttle its on its back or spinning out of control. Carpet, asphalt, concrete all put it on its back every time with a wide open shot of throttle. Really its to much power, I often dial it down with the throttle atv. Currently on my second set of diff gears. Launching on a carpet ramp doing back flips will kill the gears pretty quick.

Yes, you have many program options with the mamba and castle link. Im not sure how many options you have just stick programmimg. You can change your efficency as well.

how fast does it go? is it stripping gears? do you have trouble keeping it on all 4 wheels? i have a mini lst and its a blast to drive with a the stock pack and motors, i can imagine a lipo and brushless.

Not sure of speed, but 40+ easily. Im pretty sure it finally stripped my gears, but its just too fast for what the vehicle is made for. I will keep the brushless system for my next project, and am going to convert the mini lst back to brushed and run a 2 cell li-po. Keep it the way it was made for, for BASHING.

my LHS said the lst i bought had stronger diffs than the original model... did losi ever revise the diffs? and do you think that would make any diffrence, because i'd like to run a similar setup and just get some insane speed out of it, and mess around at a local track.

Yes, they did revise the differentials. If your interested in buying my setup throw me a PM. Definately all out speed, just too much for my needs.

Model: Mini LST
Current Motor: Wraith 7k
Current ESC: Mamba 25 with Castle link
Current Battery: Apogee 1570 3s Lipo

BTW, Losi's revised diffs blow just as quickly as the other ones, they even look identical, I don't beleive they changed them at all. I know you can still call Losi and get "upgraded" diffs sent to you for free. Plenty of people on on18th have... Dozens of times.

Also, if it weren't for the Castle Link, I would have a Quark 33 Pro Car right now, and maybe I will soon anyway, we'll see.

The Quark is nice for the bigger motor's like the Wriath because of the higher capacity it can handle. If either Quark would make a usb link, or Mamba would step up to a 35, I'd be tickled pink.

I talked to S&T a while ago about the USB link, they are thinking about it, but right now are keeping it the way it is for the one touch setup.

mine is:

Factory Team Rc18t
mamba 25A
mamba 6800kv
IB 7-cell 1400 batteries.

I am running on mt tires and 12/60 gearing, and I´m having some over heating problems, my mamba motor gets to 150fº is that normal?

It's not abnormally high, get a heat sink if you want though.

Default RE: Brushless setup for all mini's

I am thinking of going brushless with my mini quake. im looking at the venom 4900 or mamba 6800 for thier price and run time. does anyone have any suggestions? i saw a dynamite C4 9200kv but i don;t know what the run times would look like. what are the run times for u guys with a mamba 8000kv and maybe a 2000mah lipo? anyone? or a 6800kv with a 2000mah lipo? i would like to get at least 15min or is that asking too much? speed wise, 40mph on up is good enough. but the more the better. I like alot of torque. flip that bad boy over torque!

also it souds like the quark 33a esc is the way to go. any objections?
