this should help you understand it.....

http://youtube.com/watch?v=DeUVdOJBW80

update:

just ordered a 230 mah 2s lipo for the car, as i think my losi lipo is showing it's age. i got ~ 15 min run times, and if i went too hard on it, it would cut out, as if the LVC was taxed. i think a battery with more punch will cure the trick.

also, the range seemed a little lackluster, i had ~ 50 feet. i will look inot this issue, or just spring for a spektrum Rx to go with my spektrum Tx if i can't find a solution.

more updates to follow, with pix and vids once i can get them.

get the battery from diymicrotuner.com , it is more powerful.

if you want a 3 wire Rx, i will sell you mine cheap (the one i JUST got, i am gonna go Spektrum since i already have the Tx) then just buy the servo and you are set. (the servo from thetoyz is 14.99, so i would sell you the Rx to go with it for 15 shipped, saving you 5 bucks. this way, you can put that 5 bux towards the brushless motor )

hereis the pic i took 2 nights ago....

as for the shocks, i love my HR oil filled ones, so you may want to check them out.

otherwise, you are on the right path.

Thanks joe. Hey can you kinda explain what I am looking for when it would or would not need shimming...sure I am beating a dead horse, but I understand shimming tightens up the play in the diff bearing...what exactly to look for I am a litlle foggy in understanding. TY

When you put together the 3Racing trans. with all the gears in place, hold the two outdrives (where the dogbones go in) with your thumb and forefinger and move them back and forth as one unit. You'll probably notice that there is some play. If you don't shim this, the little bevel gears with those tiny teeth will separate under power and shred easily. SO... putting shims in will hold them together and stop the shredding. KRO had to shim 0.5mm, I had to shim 0.3mm and -JOE- had one trans. that he didn't even have to shim at all. So I gather it all depends on the particular transmission box and gears you have.

I noticed RJ at theToyz must have made a deal with 3Racing, so theToyz and 3racing transmission's with the ball bearings at the top... same deal. Nice work RJ

Anyway, when you watch the video mike mentioned you will see where to put the spacers (instead of that wire).

I shimmed both sides, 0.1mm on one and 0.2mm on the other, shimming one side at 0.3mm would probably work as well, I just figured making the dif centered might be better.

Hope that helps you Desert

wait, are you implying that the 3 racing trans from the toyz is already shimmed due to the bearings?

Nope, just that this:

http://www.thetoyz.com/cart/thetoyz_...339&cat_name=#

And this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Alloy-Gear-Box-G...QQcmdZViewItem

Look exactly the same.

I own the blue 3Racing one, but I would guess the red one would probably have to be shimmed as well, as it's most probably made for theToyz by 3Racing.

Get what I'm sayin'????

-Make sure you post some pics of your T when it's all done-

I bet it's gonna FLY!

oooooooohhhhhhhh, i gotcha.

yeah, it looks kinda cool, but definitely tightly packed. i need to solder in the lights, and get the body to fit all the wiring under it, and then i will surely have pix. i just got the shipping notice for the battery, so i may run the losi lipo a few more times, and then send it to the grave (unless someone wants to give it a try, i will ship it for a few bux) but i think it is getting weak.

i am looking forward to some serious speeds!! it was definitely fast last night, and that is with a blown diff. once the trans comes in, the shims, and the new battery, we will have a serious little machine on our hands

My MDT runs as smooth as any of my larger scale cars and will run in the low 30mph range when topped out and wheelies as long as you hold the trigger down , running around in my living room with it is almost as fun as running my larger cars on the track .

There was some mod where you use a gear from a servo that will get you going REALLY fast but I cant remember where I saw it .

mikemcnair , if you can afford it the Spektrum IS the way too go , no doubt . I dont even run my antenna outside of the car and I can drive it till I can see it anymore

I have a couple suggestions since I have done more shopping for this little guy sthan I would like to admit.
1st definately get the trans case, the gears are the first to go with out this mod, speaking from experience. 2nd how come you are getting the 3 wire set-up....did I miss a link to the BL system.
3rd for like only 2 bucks more (at least where I was shopping) why not get the new threaded shocks that losi has, unless anyone here has had any bad experience with them.
Just my 2cents. For what its worth.

Galaxie thankyou for the thourough reply, with the vid and your instruction I am sure I can figure it out. The whole shimming thing was a little new to me. Does anyone know if HR and Losi products are made by the same people. Just wondering. I ordered losi threaded shocks and noticed that they are a bit more dark blue than the 3racing stuff.....I am a bit particular and I want my stuff to match, it looks to me the blue losi stuff would match the HR stuff nicely. I need a motor plate that will match the shocks and I kinda like the way the HR plate looks. Cant wait to post up some shots of my graphite mini-t when it is more complete.

I think the Spektrum RX will give you a little more room than that Losi RX does ..

My MDT ....... sorry for the crappy pics ....

I have a question about tires. What would be the best tire and wheel combo for driving on the road?

Mike, have you checked into the Aero-nuts lipos? Aero-nuts 2S1P 7.4V 200mah 12C Continuous!!! They are only like $5. I ordered 4 of them. They are on back order until the end on this month. I dunno, they have a lower MAH but they have a very high constant. I'll keep you posted on the performance. I have heard good things abou them.

I recieved some of my parts today. The Toyz gearbox looks like it only has one bearing???? I thought it would have ones for the inside for the differential. I only bought the losi bearings which only come with the 8 bearings for the wheels...I would have ordered a set of 10 with the bearings for the tranny if I knew that I would have needed them. This kinda sucks because if I need to order another set thats just more down time...no hobby stores near me. Oh well any suggestions would be welcome.

Desert, your ball bearings from stock transmission should fit in there just fine

And no probs on the 'how to' shim. That's what these forums are for.

Cheers!
