I wanted to introduce myself as a "new to the hobby" member.  I chose the mini DT as my first rc.  I have read this thread and get the overall impression that the DT is a good truck.  I am open to any resources for learning about rc and this truck.  I am excited about this, as I am a huge kid at heart.
I'm still learning the lingo, so you might have to give me any feedback as if I was a toddler.
Look forward to reading more about the mini DT.

They aren't the best on any surface but they are a good all terrain tire. There are better I'm sure I just haven't found them.

Hi,

I tried using my mini DT this morning and it won't move?
I only ran it for the first time from new yesterday and it was fine...

I checked the battery is good and that the receiver is getting the signal from the transmaitter (you can steer left and right).
When I pull the trigger, the ESC glows red, but the engine won't run... any ideas anyone?!

cheers
KJ

Here's an update on mine.

Upgrades:

* EZ Run Motor/ESC (12T | 7800KV | 25A)
* Team Losi LiPo battery (1000 Mah)
* Team Losi Racing Shocks
* Team Losi Spring Kit (firm springs installed)
* Team Losi Extended Body Mounts
* Traxxas Radio/Rx (from my T-Maxx)

Here's a list of the issues I've seen so far.

1) Out of the box my Radio/Tx wouldn't work. The range at times would only work at 3-5 feet. I've emailed Losi's Product Support to ask for a replacement. Because I went w/ the brushless setup the Losi ESC/Rx had to go, so I installed a Traxxas Radio/Rx that I had laying around. I still hope Losi will send me the replacements.

2) Extended Body Mounts - The extended body mounts I bought wouldn't fit on the front shock tower of my Mini DT. To fix this I bought the Mini T front shock tower. The holes are wider apart for some reason. The good news is it fits on the DT without any issues.

Because the rear mounts are sitting further back the posts won't line up with the stock DT body. Luckily there are little gaps that line up perfectly. I also had to add new holes for the front posts due to the entire body being moved towards the rear.

Its not a big deal because I have a new body coming in the mail. I bought the Xciter body for the Minit T. A friend here at work as a Mini T body & I believe I can make it work for the Mini DT.

3) The stock antenna tube wouldn't stay seeded into the little spot on the frame. This drove me nuts! Everytime I flipped the car the antenna would come out. It bought the larger diamter antennea tube at my LHS but it continued to happen. To fix this I superglued it down into the hole. It'll be a pain if I want to change recievers but it's better then fighting with it everytime I flip the car.

4) During crashes my battery would fly out of the tray. To fix this I added velcro. Talk about a cheap & simple fix.

5) This next issue is my only unsolved issue. For some reason my turnbuckles will pop off with the slightest bump. My buddies here at work have the same setup (one has the mT & the other has a mDT) and neither of them have this problem.

Is there any way to fix this or keep it from happening? It happens on just about every turnbuckle on the car (especially the front).

Hi,
I am considering getting a Losi Micro DT, and have lots of questions[sm=wink_smile.gif]
How durable is it, when you smack it in to something does it break like a 1:8th scale truck?
What it the price of parts? Does it jump well? Can it run outside in dirt/sticks?
How fast does it go stock (in miles per hour)?
Thanks,
6788

Wrong truck. This is for the 1/18th scale MINI Desert Truck and not the 1/36th scale MICRO Desert Truck.

I am sorry, I didn't know there was a Mini.
But after looking at Losi I don't know which one would be better
My apologies, more reading to do

Hey fellas. Just picked up a DT off craigslist and am still waiting to get it. Thought I'd pop in and say hi. Got a heck of a deal on it for $60 w/ 2 sets of rims/tires, two bodies, 2 lipos and the stock battery and aluminum a-arms. Just wish UPSwould get in gear. The guy only lives 100 miles away.

Aluminium A-arms are a bad idea.

Is it because they are too rigid? Ran into that with a couple of my nitros.

No it's really because they bend. Unlike plastic parts with just spring back in to place after being bent aluminium will stay bent. I've found the stock arms to be more than enough durability wise and they save some weight too.

In that case I'll probably use the stock ones. I have snapped alum. a-arms on my nitros before and it was just because there was too much resistance.

Hi guys. I'm a dumba** and fried my stock combo esc last night. Does anyone have a spare they'd be willing to sell cheap? Everywhere I look they're $35+, usually more, and if I'm going to spend that much I might as well go brushless...and you can see that this is the point where the wife starts to get pissed off. So help me not piss off my wife and sell me your old, unused speed control.

Also, has anyone run their mini-DT on carpet? I'm working on a setup for the local carpet track. Lowering it quite a bit, stiffening up the springs and shocks, etc.

IMHO, if you're going to step up to brushless then you also need to pony up for LiPOs and a new charger.

$50 isn't THAT much for a descent ESC, Novak Spy or XRC...tell the wife to cool out, there are worse things you could be doing

with some better tires and shocks and springs, the DT rocks on carpet

Already got the li-po s and a good charger. In fact, that's how I killed the esc! They don't like reverse polarity. Who knew?

I don't mind spending the money, but she'll make me save for it. And I want to drive now!!!

that's why I always replace the RTR electronics from the get-go, and save it as a back-up

FWIW - if you're going racing you'd needed to upgrade that stuff anyway

you are aware you'd have to replace the radio gear too?

Well, there isn't a lot of 1/18 racing that I've found around here, this is more a bashing truck for around the house. I'm thinking about buying a slash to go race with. They're very popular around here. I would like to have a fast enough and reliable enough system in my mini to at least go practice with the 1/10 stuff and not get physically smashed.

If I had only remembered when I bought it that I'd put 2-3 times the purchase price into it in mods....

It's always, "well I'm fixing this, so I might as well upgrade." Damn crack.

Yes, I'm aware I have to replace the radio and esc.
