Hey Jonney, did you balance the Edge side to side and check for wing warp? My dropped the right wing as well until I added a little weight to the left, now it will do perfect harriers without worry

RE: e-flite mini edge 540
I checked my wings and had no warp at all, so the next step for me was to cut the covering on the bottom and install a piece of weight to the out board rib. Now if I hold my Edge by the spinner it won't roll either way. I'm glad to hear that your expirence with the Edge is a good one. I found this thread after buying mine and was suprised to hear so many bad reports. I think it just needs more TLC in the set-up and tunning than other planes, but once you do it, this plane is awesome
Take care and happy landings
BTW do you know the weight of yours ready to fly with the 480 and what batt are you using?

RE: e-flite mini edge 540
i considered the extreme flight extra but the seagull was readily availble locally and inexpensive/flew it today.. has very good flight habits and is one heck of a bargain/ info on extreme flight extra 300 from building to performance set ups here http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=464062 theres also resources on rcu but the one i posted seems to have the greatist amount of feedback etc. also i started a post here on rcu for another promissing E-Flite product.. very nice specs and i should have one when there availble/im probally gonna have to let my edge 540 go to make room for the new stuff/ no room and not enough gear []. heres link to my next plane most likly.. this may change after i go to I-Hobby show though.. but most likely its the one in link . http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4804120/tm.htm

Can somebody give me an idea on mounting a Hacker A30? I had them laying around so I thought I would see. Is a stick mount available? What size prop?

RE: e-flite mini edge 540
So I go flying at a empty airport yesterday, lot's of people and planes were there, Big planes, all nitro powered, p-51's t-34's, cap 540's, pitts special's ect ect. Guess what plane everybody wanted to fly? My little mini edge 540 with a stick mounted 480! The wind was creating headaches aka crashs, but my mini cut the wind like butter, fast as hell, rock solid flight line and never had a problem landing in a 15mph crosswind. I went thru 6 battery packs quick! People loved to see this bird fly and having the smallest plane there, but having everybody parking their planes to watch me fly my little mini, was, well, FREAKING GREAT!!!!

RE: e-flite mini edge 540
airracer2004,
The Mini Edge's high wing loading does allow it to penetrate better than planes like the Mini Funtana. I prefer the ME when I know it's going to be windy. The ME also does a Blender better than any other plane I've flown. Plus it will "carry thru" some maneuvers with better momentium than lighter loaded plane. Every plane has it's advantage.
One mod that really improved my ME was installing a shorter LG. With the stock gear, it would frequenty nose over at the end of landing, especially on grass.

I had to cut it shorter and rebend the angles. My 11" prop only has about an inch of clearance now but I've never had a noseover since installing it.

RE: e-flite mini edge 540
i have a mini edge and it does fly great, now that i straightend all the warped cont. surfaces. i have gotten about 50 to 75 flights on it so far.
Using a spektrum dx6 Tx. with s75 servos And a e-flight park 480 out runner motor with 40 amp brushless speed control 11.1v 2100 Li-Poly batt, must know good throttle management, very fast, will takeoff in 12 feet. Love it.

RE: e-flite mini edge 540
hey, i finished my mini edge 2 months ago with a thunder tiger 15 tho :P, awesome combo, umm only problem i have is, for some reason i cant stop glitches (chattering of servos in range check). i have moved battery/reciever round to all different locations in the plane. ive used 2 hitec 555 recievers, 2 supreme 8 channel hitecs and also a 10 channel futaba pcm synthesised, and no matter which reciever i use, it still wont stop chattering in a range check, apart from swicthing to pcm, so every movement is delayed and ratcheting due to glitches, with pcm hiding the chattering, but ive tried so many ways of routing antenna, taking out a servo one at a time and checking it, it does not matter what servo i take out of reciever it still chatters. so ive pretty much given up on this thing, as if i put it in the air again i will probably loose the plane. after last time the glitches made it go to full down elevator and full throttle ... just my luck, but cought it a couple of meters off the ground before ailerons started twitching again. i have some pics of motor and radio set up. but reciever is out of plane at the moment, reciever usually sits between wing spar and fuel tank (where lipos usually sit in a electric set up). all the wires get crowded up in the corner, but, ive tried it will all wires being straight and not bunched up, and still chatters, ive even taken away switch, and still does it, so ive ruled out the switch as the problem, i just cant seem to find where its getting interference from? so for now its just gonna sit on the bench and ill wack my reciever back in my giles 202.

RE: e-flite mini edge 540
Just ordered this bird/Park 480 combo from Horizon. Couldn't pass-it-up, really. Just what I need...another electric bird! Thinking about putting the ESC/electronics from my Stryker in it, but think the ESC in the Stryker (F27C) is woefully inadequate for this motor.
I clipped off about 2.5 inches of wing on the Stryker going through a tree, and cut the other side the same. It is now very pitch sensitive, even with CG as far forward as I can muster. No problem, but it requires constant back/forward pressure at different throttle settings. To be expected, for sure! Makes for interesting low flying...gotta be "on it" all the time.
Anyway, bought this bird as the price is a steal, and I need more airplanes to crash!

I think you might can get away with a 35 amp. 40 amp would be best. But I woould not go any lower than a 35. I don't know what stryker use.

RE: e-flite mini edge 540
Charles,
A 25 amps ESC works fine. My Phoenix 25 has held up well for over a year with a 480. I'm not sure which 480 comes in the combo, the 910Kv or 1020Kv? The 910 is rated at 20 amps and the 1020 is 22 amps. Consider a battery like the TP 1320, a 2100 will effect flight performance because of the weight.

Jimmy:
It comes with the 1020KV. Thanks for the 1320 recommendation. I've got tons of 2150s lying around, however. Will look into the Hextronic batteries, then. I'm done paying out-the-nose for name brand (FP EVO, TP, etc.) cells. They really need to come-down in price...they are WAY overhyped.
I'm using FP 2500 4S Evos (singly) in my Fliton AJ extra, and they are actually a bit heavy for that bird.
Could always use two 1320s in parallel in all my other birds using 2150s, I guess!

Charles,
I understand, but IMHO, price is not the only determining factor in value. Maybe I have just had bad luck, but experimenting with less expensive batteries has cost me more in the long run.

RE: e-flite mini edge 540
A friend of mine just gave me two crashed Mini Edge airframes. I ordered a few parts I needed plus some electronics (EF 480 outrunner/40A esc, servos, landing gear, spinner, pushrod set...etc.) I've read most of the pages on this thread before as I've been interested in this plane. Wasn't planning on buying one but since it was free... Anyone have any successful tips in "tuning" of this airframe? I plan on checking for any warps in any of the lifting surfaces. But anything else? Alternate balance points? Thrust angles? Throw differentials? It's hard to get information from this thread as it's varied in topic several times. Thanks guys.

Antennaman,
Horizon is having a sale on the ME. For $84.95 you get the plane and a E-flite 480 1020Kv motor.

RE: e-flite mini edge 540
Yeah, I've seen that. I planned on buying it since it's one heck of a deal. But when I went to order it, it said it was backordered until june or something. Now after my order's already shipped, it says it's in stock. I missed out on a whole other airframe for $10. I'm a little upset. Oh well.
