litterbug,

I'm still using the stock control linkages, but have beefed most up a bit.

I found some flexing of the stock threaded rods, so I added some carbon fiber
tubing over the threads, locked in place with nuts, to reinforce them.

Trust me it needs that much weight to fly stable. I'm a pretty good pilot plus I fly helis. It was very unstable with 4 oz of weight.

...........................................
Hmmm, just doesn't seem right you need 8 oz of ballast on the nose.[sm=angry.gif]
fwiw:I used a laser level to center my ailerons.

Weigh yours and let us know what your AUW is.
Mine is at 7 lbs 3 oz AUW-RTF (ZERO ballast)

Next, post photos similar to these I'll post and maybe one of us here might spot what's going on with yours.[sm=idea.gif]
Btw; power yours ON and we can see where your ailerons are, as I did for these photos.

I notice your servos are HS 5625MG's. Did you get them specifically for this or did you already have them.

I am currently using some Hextronic MG's because i had them in a super stik and I'm not really sure of their quality although they have performed admirably so far except I noticed the rudder servo didnt centre properly a few times recently.

Its not the easiest task to sort through the screeds of servos available so i take a lead from other modellers experience.

I did a search at the websites I buy from and haven't come across those that you use.

What specs would one look at for this type model/flying.

Costs prevent me going to the digital coreless titanium geared wizbang type.

***NOTE***
The smaller 40 size only requires 65 in/oz servos.
The following is for ONLY the larger 60-90 size PROX260 Freestyle;

AeroWorks manual for the 60-90 size PROX260 Freestyle states servos with a minimum of 120 oz torque@6 volts.
The HS-5625MG puts out 130, which I have on my Rudder & Elevator.

For the Ailerons I went up one step better with HS-5645MG 168 oz @6 volt. Overkill? Maybe. But remember, those
Ailerons are HUGE, your swinging barn doors there!

Stick with metal geared servos for two good reasons; first off the engine vibrations given off by single cylinder gassers,
and secondly they're far harder to strip out than the cheapo nylon econo servos are.

Thanks A1. I will get the weight and pics posted. My ailerons are perfect but maybe there is something else.

Now I added the weight to make it natural. At half a tank on an inverted 45 degree upline it tracks straight. For the heavy 3G guys they want it a touch more aft.

I am changing my gear to the CF which will reduce 2 oz. The stock gear was getting soft but still worked with 3" wheels and a 17" xoar.

They are 3 small strips of lite ply that are covered in Monocoat, and are used to reinforce the zip ties used to secure the ignition module & fuel tank, under the wings on the fuselage. You can make up your own.

I may have been the first person to have installed a DLE2occ gasser onto this model, 2 months before AW came out with their 'kit'.

Thanks A1pcfixer

I have been flying O M P Katana profile for many years. On this i did build in side trust and some down trust.
Is that good for the ProX 260 to ?

I haven't (yet) found much need for right thrust. It pulls to the left in a pull-out of a hover, slightly.
Try yours with out first, THEN decide. Most manuevers I don't see a need for such....yet.

Forget any for down thrust, it needs ZERO!

Overall, this 60-90 size behaves & flies very well!

A1pcfixer,

I adjusted my Ailerons again for perfect 0 degrees and they are within 1/2 turn on the clevis. Aileron Diff is 0/0 where before I had some in a right roll so I may of had one or both ailerons slightly off.

I added CF gear, dropped the SFG, added a chrome plated brass Dubro spinner nut and GP 1oz weight. I now have 2.5 oz of weight on the nose so it's getting better. I'm going to remove another 1/2 oz for the next flight. As my fuel burns off the CG moves aft and it's getting real close to where I want it.

All,

How much elevator throw are you guys using on Low Rate? I have mine set at 17 degrees and with a slightly forward CG (Nose drops slightly with 1/2 tank on an inverted 45 degree upline) but it seems very touchy. I'm using an 11X with 35% EXPO for smooth IMAC flying but man is the elevator touchy with such little throw. It can do a loop with 20 feet at normal cruise speed.

My rates are 20/Low, 30/High, and 45 degrees/3D.
I only flew on low rates for the first 3-4 flights and then went right to the high rate.

Try upping your expo to 50-60%, and remember expo on JR/Spektrum is a +/plus value, on Futaba it's a -/negative value.

Btw; still waiting on you to post photos of your setup. We might find where your CG issue is off.
IF you do try posting any, be aware that server on RCU is very slow accepting such at the moment.
Give it a couple minutes to tell ya photos accepted.

Looks like I may be picking one of these combos up early next year. I need a good (fly off the road, or school yard) fun-fly plane to practice with. Our club no longer has a flying site and I've lost a little of my confidence due to the lack of flying. This thing looks like a great grab and go plane.

goose, can you post of vid of your engine running with the can? The other vids don't sound bad with the stock muffler, but I'd like to hear how the can sounds.

Is every one mounting the DLE 20 forward for better CG?

Thanks

If you get AW' custom install kit, it'll end putting your DLE20 a full 1" farther back than how I did mine.
Did mine 2 months before AW had their kit available, but I'm VERY glad I put mine forward. Sure helps with the CG!

Look back in this thread, I'm sure Goose posted a video link......somewhere.

8 - 10 ounce is plenty big enough.

Hi all,

I wanted to report my AW ProX260 plane flew very well this summer. The DLE-20 makes this plane a real hot rod. All the guys at my field say this little DLE-20 sounds like a 50cc when flying over.

Now I built mine like Aero-Works suggested and felt it was tail heavy using the carbon fiber landing gear. The aileron were centered correctly so I added a heavy spinner 4oz and flew it and decided it needed another 2 oz on the nose. I flew it this way all summer and felt the CG was good.

One of these days I will weigh it and compare it to others. I also need to learn how to post pictures.
