Best 3D 30% Aircraft???
Hey guys,
I wanted to get some opinions from personal experience of the best 3D 30% aircraft available today. I currently fly a 30% Pilot Extra 260 and have never been completely happy with it. It never seems to have enough elevator and it wing-rocks a lot with full deflection. I did change the elevator to have counter-balancers and it helped but still not satisfied.
From what I've seem Extreme Flight and 3D hobby are producing some very nice airplanes. I really like the Extreme Flight Edge 540 and 3D Hobby Shop's Extra.
Just wanted to get some thoughts.
Thanks,
Mike

RE: Best 3D 30% Aircraft???
Peak models planes are mostly produced in the two most prolific factories and as such they are very close to many of the other common brands. The Yak mentioned is a nice flyer, perhaps not quite as good as the Extreme flight but decent enough. (I don't have any personal experience with the 3DHS product so can't commetn on those).
I don't have personal experience withe the pilot RC plane you are currently flying but you mention it doesn't seem to have enough elevator and it wing rocks badly - have you tried reducing what elevator you have got a little to see what happens? without putting in too many long boring details for you, I know in a couple of my birds that too much elevator will make the plane seem "spongy" and make the wings rock like crazy - reducing the elevator throw a little transformed them quite a bit.
Now let the aerodynamics discussions commence

AussieSteve,
All good info, I will give it a shot on reducing the elevator throw. As for Peak Models I might give the YAK-54 a try. For the money and free shipping you cannot beat it. I also like how Peak has improved their models over the course of time . The current Yak is V3 and has some very good reviews. I was trying to figure out what other brands the manufacture for Peak produces? The build and layout of Peak models looks a lot like my Pilot Aircraft.
Thanks again,
Mike

I fly a 30% Peak Model Edge 540T for the past 2 years on a DLE-55. Love it, and it's light at around 14.75lbs AUW, 88.5"ws, 85" long. I changed out the gear to a solid single CF gear mounted on the bottom of the fuse, but other than that it's been great and survived a few dead sticks. Only thing I don't like about it is that once in awhile it will start to drop a wing with quick 50* elevator deflection. I wouldn't hessitate to buy another though.
With that being said, I own a smaller Extreme Flight Edge 540T and have seen many 3DHS planes. IMHO they're the best of the best from those two companies. If you can afford it, I'd go with one of them. You'll be guaranteed a great flying, well tested and redesigned airframe.

Well guys I order the Peak Models Extra 330L with a DLE & can. You can't beat the price and with free shipping it was a no brainer. I'm not sure how long it will take to get here in the states but I'm not really in a rush.

RE: Best 3D 30% Aircraft???
Im in the same boat. Searching for that ultimate 30% airframe.
I originally was set on the EDGE 540... But now I’m not sure. I don’t have any experience flying an Edge, just the little bit of time on a SIM. Obviously I know these are all great 3D airframes. My issue with the Edge in comparison to a YAK is wing rock. It seems to me that a YAK is more stable in super high alpha harrier type flight which is what I’m looking for but I already have a YAK.
From what I read, the Edge is very stable and great for IMAC and 3d... But maybe more towards IMAC??
What about an EXTRA?
If you have some opinions.... I would greatly appreciate it.
I would love to get some feedback. Keep in mind I am going to put the DA60 in this puppy, so the power will be there. I would say high alpha stability is what I am looking for the most.....

RE: Best 3D 30% Aircraft???
I would say my needs are all out 3d performance. Keep in mind I don't fly like a lot of these guys. I am good flier considering the amount of time I have been flying (for my age etc). I am not afraid to seriously push my limits, sometimes too much. I am at that point where I am doing a lot of experimenting, so "things happen". But I really know how to dial it down especially considering the investment I'll be making.
High Alpha stability I would say is my biggest desire. Would you agree that a YAK54 is one of the best in this category?? Keep in mind, Id rather not get another YAK, although the ExtremeFlight Yak is looking better and better.
Im worried that Aeroworks frames, although some of the BEST constructed and all the pluses (ringed cowl, prehinged, pipe ready)...it seems to me they run on the heavy side?? (anyone? anyone?)
Anyway... Im buying some small electrics to do all my "playing" until the skills are rock solid... and really want to grow into something awesome... I want to buy now... well simply cause I have some extra cash. lol
I love hearing what people have to say!! THANKS AGAIN!!!

GMP has a really nice SBACH on sale.
I seen this plane fly a few weeks ago and there is no wing rock at high alpha harriers.

The SBach is a great 3D airplane. I had the Pilot RC one from Chief. I also have the EF Yak and the EF Edge. All three are excellent at 3D. I very favorite for 3D though is the SBach. I think it does it better than all the others. Mostly,,,,,,because of the way it flatspins and waterfalls. Nothing does them better I don't believe.
Thanks
