RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
I think FedEx sucks, they always damage stuff, I guess they have better rates then UPS and that is why Horizon uses them!
The drivers/shppers just don't care at FedEx...
Good luck, the Showtime 50 is a great flier.

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
well today fedex dropped off the 2nd box of parts undamaged this time. looks like horizon even added extra padding to help protect the fuse. got most of it together this evening and should be ready by the weekend. the second one goes together even faster than the first.

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
I have been reading the posts and notice many are running the Saito .91 on this model. How much throttle is remaining from hover with this engine? What prop and nitro?
Was looking at both the Showtime 50 and the Aeroworks 540T and would like to pick the best model for the Saito 91. The Aeroworks appears to be the lighter of the two, but there are many great comments regarding the flight characteristics of the Showtime 50.

i would also consider a fliton edge or extra. i have the showtime 50 with a saito 82 and it is ok im not excited about this plane. i recently crashed my fliton edge and decided to try the aeroworks edge .46-.61. and it came in at over 7lbs and i'm not the only one that it came in that heavy. i hope to maiden it this week but i hope i dont regret not getting another fliton.

JAMESRXX951...if you don't want your showtime and want to sell it, let me know!
You have to modify the plane for the 91, the largest it is setup for is a 82a, at least I did for the O.S. 91 four stroke and I had to put a larger tank in it, so I had to modify that area also...it flew great, with the SFG it hovers easy and knife edges easy. However, I blew mine up...LOL(crashed)
I bought the Showtime 90 and plan on putting the O.S. 120 AX in it when I get a chance to finish it.

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
right now im waiting on a new set of wings for horzon. for it to fly right i had to add over 1/8" trim up on one aileron and 1/8" down on the other. even with the new fuse that i broke it didn't change anything. i figure there has to be a major twist in one of those wings. if the new ones work out good maybe i will like flying it more.

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
well horizon sent me the new wings and i flew it today. WOW what a different plane. this plane flys 100% better. so stable knife edges without the sfg's. will have to mix alittle elevator to keep it straight but not a problem. this is a great flying plane and i will be looking forward to flying it again. now i need experiment with different props to see what i like more.

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
this is a question for all the saito .82 powered st50. what prop have you guys experimented with and like. the apc 14/4 seems the best so far keeps speed down and provides decent power it is running 9600 rpms on wildcat 20/20. i've triied a 13/6 13/8 it have good climbing ability but made it to fast for my likeing slow speed pullout was not the greatest. i'm going to try a apc 14/6 and also thinking about a wood xoar. so if anyone has some input that would be great.

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
I am disappointed with any ARF it seems. However, my Showtime 50 did come out OK.
1. I found that the landing gear hardware was good, but I did not like some of the rest.
2. The control horns are not great, but I am using them without any problems. Make sure you work carefully when mounting them to get the backing plate positioned exactly on the opposite side of the surface and so that there is no extra stress placed the nylon parts by the screws.
3. I replaced all the crap clevises and pushrod connectors with ball links and better clevises. It is important to eliminate any slop in the linkages, or a big 4-cycle will cause the control surfaces to flap around a lot.
4. Throw away the screws used to mount the cowl. One of heads on mine broke off. I am using #3 cap head servo screws instead.
5. I wrapped the wing tube with scotch tape to get a tighter fit.
6. I replace the questionable wing bolts with better US-made 1/4-20 nylon bolts. Also, I added extensions to the anti-rotation pins and fitted them with hood pins in order to retain the wing if a bolt breaks.
Also:
7. The right elevator servo mount needs some work. I found that the internal plywood plate was supported at the rear by a bulkhead, but on the front was free-floating on the balsawood fuselage side. I glued in some extra plywood supports attaching the front of the plywood plate to the bulkhead in front of it. I did this all through the servo opening, but if you open the covering on the bottom it would make it easier.
8. I used a Satio 91 which is wider than the 82. The stock engine mount proved to be too flexible for the larger/wider engine, so I used a Dave Brown FS 90 engine mount instead.
9. I found out, when I pushed out the blind nuts to move the engine mount bolts, that the blind nuts were not flush against the back of the firewall and that there was not enough glue used to fill in the gap. I corrected this when I put in new blind nuts.
10. I glued in plywood supports inside on the side of the landing gear mount and on the sides of the firewall.
11. I put in one Robart hinge point on the bottom part of the rudder to help support the pull from the pull-pull cables and the weight on the tail wheel. This might be overkill, but my pull-pull cables stay tight.
12. When you glue on the canopy, do it with the canopy hatch mounted to the fuselage, so it will come out straight. You have to put plastic wrap under the canopy hatch so you do not glue it to the fuselage.
13. Before you glue on the canopy, put the canopy hatch outside in the sun for a while because this will cause the blue covering to sag some. Use a heat gun to shrink the covering. Make sure the covering under the canopy will not sag in the sun before gluing it on.
If I think of anything else, I will add it later.

Thankyou for the wonderful reply frank, i will take your advice , cuz i would like to enjoy it for many years to come and add it to my collection of planes that never seems to grow... and i also plan on putting my saito 91 in it as soon as i replace my pushrods, ill probably have to order another cowling, so i twill look right, and have no unnecessary cutouts

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
I am using an APC 14x7 prop on the Satio 91 in my Showtime 50. I set it at a rich 9300-9500 RPM and leave the idle around 2100 RPM. I am using a Dubro 14oz fuel tank and usually fly about 13 minutes, leaving at least a 2 minute reserve. I fly at 5000 ft. altitude, so that will affect the results some compared to sea level.
Also, I am using Omega 15% for fuel and a Performance Specialties muffler.

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
i maidened my ST 50 w/ an os 61 and bisson pitts exhaust and it flew awesome,, it was windy, about 20 mph or so, but i wanted to get it out of the way, Its a bit nose heavy right now with battery and rx in stock locations.... ill try out the sfg's later on down the road once i get familiarized with her.

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
its a tad nose heavy, i have the battery and rx in the stock location, but there is plenty to room to relocate stuff to help w/ cg... i barely have 3 flights on it, so i'll start tweaking it little by little to get a more aft cg....... the 61fx has plenty of power, and more than enough to hover with a nice amount of pullout power, i was using 15% nitro and a 12x6 nylon Xoar prop....

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
I have a Showtime 50 with a Saito 65, And has enough power, but anything more than would be plenty. Having said that, I am not pleased with this plane overall, For me it is hard to hover, and has a lot of rudder coupling, and is darty in forward flight. when I got mine the elevaters were warped and horizon sent me 3 sets before I found one good enough to use, and I'm still not happy with that. The SFG's do improve all aspects of flight, I still have mine, but any bad landings will destroy them.

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
As far as 3d flight goes, yes this is a lousy plane for that. in fact there were many posts here about that, it does couple drastically too. If it was labeled as a 3d/pattern plane, this is more accurate. Honestly, I LOVED the way this plane flew. Wasnt too quick, but its not made for that. I think it was rock solid in flight, given the amount of throw surfaces. Landings were feather light- and astonishingly easier than my trainer! And who doesnt like the color scheme?? I didnt like the SFG's. Flew twice with them and that was it. Landings were hotter with them too. If there was judging for roll rates, this would be #1. Even the stalls were fun to recover from. I just may get another!! Everybodys different tho, im sorry you had bad experiences with this plane, maybe u got a lemon?? For those who are well seasoned in 3d flight, i can see why this plane would not be bragged about, but it was a very good solid plane IMHO, Now- if we can figure out how to stop trees from jumping out in front of us- id still have mine!!!

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
Stryker,
I build my showtime 50 with a OS91 four stroke. Hover? That baby hovers at a little over half stick. Remember if a little is good more is better and too much is just right. ......... It was so nice I bought a 90 4D and put a os 120 4-stroke in it ........ even better....

RE: Showtime 50 anyone?
Hi Everyone,
I have an OS 61FX in my ST50 and am wondering what type of prop I should be running. I am currently using an APC 13 x 4 and it seems to be okay. I know this is not a pure 3d plane, I am just wondering if the prop I am using is correct.
Thanks
