Yep - agree. I had the same problem mounting my Syssa 30. Heat the blind nuts gently with a soldering iron to soften the epoxy that's holding them to the firewall. Insert a small bore screwdriver against the thread (from the outside obviously) and knock the blind nut out. I placed some tape over the rear of the holes, stood the fuse vertically and filled the holes with 30 min epoxy. 24 hours later after full cure time - redrilled using the laser marks and the supplied Syssa template. Perfect. never had a problem with it and the Syssa pulls like a mule.

hope this helps,

Beej

Mac...Looks like you may need to modify the firewall by moving the T-Nuts to match your template. When I have to do this, I usually just fill the holes with G-Glue and the correct size dowel rod and re-drill.
Thanks! I doweled and epoxied the hole and re-drilled.

Use of epoxy is fine. I just prefer G-Glue over using epoxy. Just a matter of choice.

How did it come out? I just picked up this airframe and was thinking of going with the DLE30, but am trying to get a clear picture of what I need to do to mount it. Did you not have to cut out the firewall for the rear carb to fit? Any way you can provide a follow up on how this turned out, and better pictures?

Hi,
just wanted to understand user experience regarding this airplane with a dle 20 vs a dle 30. Will the 20be able to do most aerobatic moves on it? Once I am comfortable, I can move to the 30. Also, some tell me the airplane is rather twichy?

I don't have the plane yet, but my brain is about to explode from all the reading I've done. I understand that the DLE20 is close in spec to a 120 or so nitro which is a lower end power wise for a plane this size. I believe it will fly just fine with such an engine, however won't have a ton of power. DLE30 is more like a 160-180 so this plane will be a rocket with that and that's what I'm planning to put on it. I don't know that I'd waste the time/money mounting a DLE20 since so many are having good experiences with the DLE30. I think the squirrelyness is related to weight and balance more than anything. If you don't see yourself needing the power of a DLE30 anytime soon go for the DLE20 I'd say. Me I'd rather do this once so the DLE30 is what I'm going to go with probably.

I just hope someone can provide detail and pictures of the best way to fit a rear carb mounted DLE30...

Just received my Yak on Tuesday. Beautiful airplane. Will need next to no reinforcement when I get around to using it. Right now, I am taking the heck out of a Reactor Bipe

Guys, how many of you have the airplane built so that the tailplane is removed for transportation? Does anyone have a problem with this?

Hi,
guys, I need to know the pushrod length on the elevators & ailerons. Basically, the distance between hinge point on the horn & servo I plan to get pushrods with opposite hand threads such as on aeroworks larger models so I can adjust the linkage without taking it off.

Mine, purchased in December 2012, came with that type of linkage. I know this, since it was the first time I had used the opposite threaded rods which I found out after trying to screw the clevis on the wrong way for 5 minutes. Amazing how well it worked when I went the other way!
I found it interesting that with a LiFe battery and diodes to the ignition, my RCGF 26cc equipped model is tail heavy-after juggling items around.

Do you have to use special standoffs to mount the DLE 30? I understand that because the carb sticks back that with standard standoffs the cowl won't fit.

I have a saito 180 converted to gas power. The saito 180 is 0.7pounds (260g) more than the saito 125. The ignition module is probably 0.2-0.3 pounds if I use an IBEC. That should put me at about 11 pounds AUW. My question is, will this make the plane perform sub par? I read a few posts back that 10 pounds is ideal and 11 pounds is a poor performer.

We have several customers using the DLE30cc with great success and they love the performance. I believe you will like the performance of the plane with the Saito 180

Let me know if you have any other questions

Thanks
Rocco

Thanks for the tip. I purchased the plane for my Saito 180, but decided to install the DLE-30 after reading the last 20 pages or so on this thread. Now I'm just waiting on the big brown airplane truck to deliver my brand new Aeroworks Yak 54! :-)

I've just completed mine, and installed a YS DZ160. I bought the un-assembled kit complete with an Evolution 26GX, but I already had the DZ160. First off I had the DZ on the standard kit engine mounts - about 20 seconds running made it clear that it would shake the airframe to pieces.

So I got the YS Super Mount 3 and the radial mount for bulkhead fitting - this took a while to get from Japan. The only problem is that the combination is about 8mm too long - so I modified the bulk head. Actually I sawed the front off and rebuilt it shorter, reinforcing it with two layers of fibreglass.

The result is a dramatic decrease in vibration and the only penalty is a slight increase in weight. CofG restored by moving the batteries and still lighter than the 26GX.

I also have an Eagle Tree Guardian 2D/3D stabiliser installed to help with those tricky moments and windy weather. It's saved my models from destruction and you can always turn it off.

I now have to wait for the next weather window to complete the engine tuning and take it up.

Default Building progress

I followed the youtube videos for the DLE-30 engine installation...very nice of that guy! I installed some plywood to the rear of the firewall for added support after removing the blind nuts. I used wooden dowels to fill the holes and 30 minute epoxy with milled fiberglass to hold it all together. My DLE-30 is about 2 years old now but I found it weird that the DLE-30 in the video had the throttle arm on the opposite side as mine. Maybe the carb is reversible or maybe they changed the design? I used an Aerotech IBEC to power the ignition off my 2S 2100mah LiFe pack which is shared by my receiver. I used 5645MG servos on ailerons and elevator, 5985MG for the rudder and a PowerHD 7150 for the throttle. Hopefully I'll have a chance to maiden it this week once I finish connecting and installing the receiver, set throws and set CG.

I initially drilled a hole to feed the blue fuel line from the fortitude tank to the DLE-30 carb, but I think I'm going to pull that out and route the fuel line through the hole in the center so I can make room to connect my Saito F1 fuel filter...which just looks cool! :-) This should also allow me to push my fuel tank forward where it should be because I apparently made a mistake while building and installed it about 1" back from where everyone else has it.

Got mine on a trade with a RCG30 has tons of power and its a great flyer. added J-tec pitts muffler and trimmed the tips. Need to replace elevator servos they are PowerHDs..metal gears but not really 3D capable as well as the aileron servos. Want to switch those powerHDs with hitecs probably 645mgs. I had to replace the cowl on my cause it was kinda beat up and had crappy cut out work. The gear had to be replace to it was bent as the plane had been in a wreck w/ the previous owner(s) Been doing a lot of repairs and cosmetic work to make this thing look good. I'm not too big on how this plane looks/design but been getting good remarks on it at the field. Ill post up some pics! Whats up Fidelity101 its oneS4Avant2envy from RCG.

Are you running an open exhaust port on your DZ160? I've only found one Pitt's style muffler that's a slim-line wrap around. The only other exhaust products I've found are canisters. I have a Hyde mount for the engine but it looks like the engine will have to be installed inverted or at least try to get the exhaust out of the cowl.
