Well I look at it like that all they've really done is ride on the coattails of the ARRL as far as BPL is concerned but I guess that's open to interpetation. Anyway, whether it's this silly DVD or most any other issue, it is still my opinion that the AMA and it's leadership need new blood and major changes in the way that they do things. Of course, that's not likely to happen anytime soon because the rank and file membership just looks at their ballot and decides the guy who has been there and that they are comfortable with will do just fine. All the other lemmings fall inline and so it goes. It takes awhile for the seeds of change to take root in any organization and the AMA is no exception.
I still don't believe that any marketing company worth it's salt would allocate time, money and resources on such an ill conceived and poorly produced project without some impetus and promise of sharing the risk from the AMA. If it did then I'm glad I don't own stock in it.
Just my opinions guys. I'm going to go enjoy my hobbies now.

No, it can only be mis-interpreted that way. Steve Kaluf and his staffers have been all over the BPL fiasco like ugly on a duck since they first got wind of the nutty idea.

You can of course nay-say their efforts, but you'd be quite wrong in so doing.

Anyway, whether it's this silly DVD or most any other issue, it is still my opinion that the AMA and it's leadership need new blood and major changes in the way that they do things. I take that to mean you slept through the last AMA election and failed to note the removal of two pieces of driftwood from the Executive Council's meetings. Tony Stillman in District V and Andy Argenio in District I are the newbies on the EC, and neither can be considered anything but "new blood", as you put it. Along with Dave Mathewson who is now in his second term, these three gents represent a major shift to the status quo of the EC, and the change is more than sufficient to eliminate the rubber stamping of the previous decade.

Things _have_ changed in Muncie, bub, but it sure sounds like you weren't paying attention.

Now, if we could just a couple more districts to take a close look at the way things are done there, the change from old to new in the EC could be completed.

It's really too bad that a significant portion of the respondents herein can't be bothered with silly things like voting in AMA elections because they're too busy *****ing about AMA in a forum where it will likely have no effect at all.

No argument here about the ill-advised manner of the DVD marketing fiasco, the actual value of the DVD collection in toto notwithstanding, which is the subject of this thread anyway.

No, I didn't sleep through it. I actually voted in fact. Both elections you mention are definitely positive steps in the right direction as far as the EC. Unfortunately though, Dave Mathewson was unable to unseat Dave Brown as president. That would have been a monumental improvement in my opinion. All in all though, it's just not enough...not yet anyway. As far as BPL, I stand corrected. I just don't recall seeing more than a passing mention of it in MA. I don't frequent the AMA website much so I'm pretty sure I missed anything about it there. Enough already... I'm unsubscribing from this thread and this forum. People seem to want to take "little digs" at you if they disagree with you. I stopped doing that kind of thing way back in high school. Enjoy your AMA discussions gents.

Michael

I have higher moral standards than all of you do and you are mistaken about your having higher moral standards than I do! These arguments go on and on forever and nobody changes anybody's mind, or their position on the matter.

I have just come back from a 9 year hiatus to the AMA. I am still impressed with the orginization and glad to be back. I buy the DVDs as I like them. If I didn't I would have packaged up and returned to the sender. My opinion, and like I said I have higher moral standards than all of you do, Ha, Ha, ha!

Why don't you do us all a favor and take a nine year hiatus from RCU.

Having half-baked wrong-headed opinions confronted with factual information is a personal slight ?

wouldn't this line of yours be a little ''dig'' in itself - intended as a put down?

you know what they say... when ya point a finger at someone, there are three more fingers pointing right back at yourself.

next time this happens, you can simply mail back (as payment) stuff out of your RC hardware box, stuff you'll never use... like old CA bottles, balsa scraps with cryptic messages written all over them, half-used push-rods, used tail wheels, velcro straps, monokote scraps, old untrustworthy servos, props you'll never use, etc........

The rest of what I said meant nothing! Simply pointing out how we all feel we have the moral high ground and our point is always the correct position! The point is:These arguments go on and on forever and nobody changes anybody's mind, or their position on the matter.

Although you have every right to keep unsolisited mail, maturity and being a caring member of a great orginization like the AMA (I was a member for 20 years before the hiatus) means that we should probably treat the orginization fairly and return the DVD. Again, this is my opinion. It don't cost you anything to do so! However, it is your option!

I have to warn you, however, telling me to leave only makes me bite on to you harder!!!

I think AMA should buy the rights to publish these threads, and put them in a nice hard cover book for its members to buy off of there website. They can call it "AMA Revalations on R/C Universe" There is some damn fine reading in these AMA threads, and entertainment this good is usually not free. You could even have little short histories included of the Main Characters who always post in here, and have these people do book signings. Just not at the same time because a fist fight would surely insue. The AMA and the Vmar threads just have to be the best, and I would buy the book in a second! ILMAO

I re-recorded the disk with some rilly exotic goat porn and then returned it, so when they re-send it to somebody else, boy, will THEY get a surprise!

This response was to Basenbum's request I leave this forum.

I don't get the rancor here, someone posted a view point, I and others disagree or agree. So what?

We all have this interest in model aviation. You'd think this to be common enough ground, allowing us to understand that people/friends may disagree and still have intelligent conversations! Instead it turns petty!

I guess my lack of posts on this forum means what I have to say has no value, especially if I might (god forbid) disagree with someone whom has 1,000 posts. Well, you know what, I'm going to say what I want, when I want, and as many times as I want!

Since when has the "Moral High route" had anything to do with defending an opinion or right to communicate a point of view?

Since the DVD comes from an external company, not from the AMA itself, and since the cost of producing and distributing the DVD is supposedly borne by that external company, just how does returning the DVD count as "treating the AMA fairly" ?

It don't cost you anything to do so!
Wrong - it costs you your time... and unlike money, time is not something that you can just decide to go get some more of. That makes it a rather precious commodity, and each of us must choose for ourselves how we wish to spend our personal allotment.

I just said the orginization, I was not specific. I don't think what I said and what I meant is confused by this.

It takes what, two minutes to put the video back in it's box, stick the label on and another minute to put in your mail box! And all this time is a great sacrifice to you!

Are you considering the time it took you to respond to my reponse? Will I be getting a bill from you?

So it only takes three minutes for me to accomodate some shlocky mail scam that had its run at least 20 years ago. I'll still opt out. Fact is, I'll willingly spend more time to discourage the scammer from continuing to bother me with disposing of his junk cluttering my mailbox. Gordon has said as much in prior postings. Does he need to write you a book in every reply?

You stated "orginization[sic] like the AMA" - so which non-AMA, but AMA-like, organization were you refering to ?

It takes what, two minutes to put the video back in it's box, stick the label on and another minute to put in your mail box!
..and in my case those three minutes are MY minutes to choose how to allocate. Neither I nor anyone else here owes it to some marketing company, to spend our time helping them.

You start out telling everyone who you don't know that you have higher moral standards? Either it's a joke or you are serious and I replied with a joke. If you were joking than you should be able to take the ribbing in return, if you were serious than you deserve to be publicly ridiculed. It had nothing to do with agreeing with you or not.

it has everything to do with defending an opinion or communicate a point of view when you come outright and make pompous claims like this:

I have higher moral standards than all of you do and you are mistaken about your having higher moral standards than I do!'
