Is that the first or second cowell?
What paint did you use to match?
Are you going to paint the wheel pants?
Did you talk to creek about the cowell color not matching the monocoat?

This is the second cowl. I painted it with Rustoleum paint. The color is sun yellow. My local Home Depot will computer match paint in Rustoleum. However, when I went to Home Depot, I found the sun yellow color in a spray can and it was almost perfect. So, I got it, a can of primer, and a can of gloss clear for about $8.00. It is a much closer match. I have used Rustoleum before and found it to be fuel proof to about 15% nitro. The red wheel pants help to offset the graphics so I will probably leave them red. Yes, I talked to Jim at Creek about the color. They are trying to get a better match on the next batch of kits. The graphics came from Charlie's Flying Circus and they do work very well with this model. The hardest part was getting the stock graphics off the wing, but a little acetone took care of that. I am amazed at how light this airplane is.

Default Weight

I still have to add servos, receiver, battery, switch, linkages, fuel tank, and fuel lines, but, at this point I am just a tad over 9 pounds on my baby scale. So, I would think no more than 11.5 to 12 pounds flying weight.

Default OS 1.60 performance

I just tached my OS 1.60 with various props:

APC 17x6 = 10,000 rpm
APC 17x8 = 9,300 rpm
APC 18x6W = 9,100 rpm
Powerpoint 18x6 = 8,000 rpm

The APC 18x6W gave the best overall performance with my Creek Staudacher: hover, knife edge loop, and slow landing. I'd image the OS 1.60 will fly the Katana very well with the APC 18x6W, and Katana should hover better than the Staudacher due to better control authority in all 3 axes.

Did the cool graphic on the side of the cowell come already attached to the cowell or did you have to apply it? ( I like it and it would be messy to tape around for painting).

What color of oracover is used on this plane?

Did you do anything special..stripes..etc on the bottom of the wing to break it up?

How did it balence did you have to add nose weight?

Have you considered the new Jutt in cowell muffler for the OS 160 it weighs 2 OZ more than the pits style, but is supposed to give you more HP?

Thanks Again, I can't weight to see how it flies

I tried the Jett in-cowl muffler for my OS 1.60, but it didn't fit into the cowl of my last plane (H9 Cap 232), so I returned it an opted for the BCM Pitts. I am sure it will give more power than the BCM Pitts does.

With 2 elevator servos at the tail and rudder servo at the wing, my Staudacher balances just acceptably tail-heavy: 30% aft from LE at the center of lift (40% from wing root to wing tip). I am sure with the Katana it should be better than Staudacher because Katana has a slightly shorter tail moment and less fuselage structure after the CG.

Default Katana

The decal on the cowl came with the kit. You must apply it, so you can paint first. The plane is covered in yellow and silver Econokote according to Jim at Creek Hobbies. I have applied two of the Kodak square graphics in red (like the black one on top of the cowl) and will also apply my handle (jpflyer) to the underside of both wings. Just trying to decide what color to make them. Mine isn't finished so I can't comment on the CG yet. I considered the Jett muffler, but my lhs had the Bisson. I, too, am looking forward to getting this one in the air.

where did you find those cool graphics? Were they a general kit or was they custom made? Does the place you got them have a web site?

Thanks

Default Graphics

The graphics are available from CFC graphics. Their website is:

http://www.cfcgraphics.com/flyingcircus.html

They were a package. Charles from CFC is a nice guy and his graphics were great.
