seems tower only likes to carry certain Phonenix models... generally the 40 sized aircraft, but they do have a lot of larger 60 sized aircraft.

SO IS THERE A GOOD ALERNATIVE DEALER/onine merchant for the US/CAN market that carries phonix models in their lineup? I would like to get another one as well as try some of their other aircraft that I never see in tower hobbies linup as well.

Lets get some answers on this one please please!

Whats with the long and short cowl? I have a very old one and it came with the long cowl. I am paying for buying an old one in that all the covering doesnt seem to remain bonded to the wood but a longer cowl means I can put in a dle 20 later

I replaced the stock gear with the DuBro heavy duty gear.. I had to cut away some to make it fit in the channel and used the same three holes. Works great. Very robust compared to the stock metal gear that came with the plane. That stuff bent-up like putty on any rough or grass landing.

I started with an .80 os engine and swapped it out for a .91 OS FX. Just starting to tune now and test different props at high attitude. Started with 14/6 and now trying 15/6 or so...

I was having cooling problems with the .80... so I think I'm going to run it without cowl for a while.. and then test with cowl on.. may need to add or enlarge a hole or two..

Also didn't use the stock fuel tank. Got a 16 oz instead.

Happy so far.. although the model is on the heavy side of things.. I've practiced my deadstick landing with this flying characteristics. Trust me.. a wrong move, and it will drop out of the sky. :-)

LOL Like I said... they aren't always exactly up front about future things. Glad to see they are back in stock though. Now I can order another for parts etc. I do love their easy pay program. It has allowed me to buy a dozen planes and as many engines over the last couple of years that I could not have gotten without that program. They are great for customer service and I have never had an issue with anything they sent to me. In fact when I got my super stearman from them they sent me a roll of white for free and without my asking for it just because the ailerons were too wrinkled to clean up. I always have my order here in Florida within two to three days after ordering as long as it was a weekday when I made the order. Anyway I am rambling. Weather here has been to hot to enjoy flying much but the time is coming where I will get to fly my 330 several flights a day. Can't wait.....

Ameyam how are your idle issues with your 91 have you gotten them solved?

YIKES, Tower's price went up by 27%, its now $190... Since it's Previous lower cost was the deciding factor.. How many people would want this plane anymore. I got it for $150 at the beginning of 2011. What a shame

Still not bad for ARF kit.. I paid $130 on ebay 1 1/2 ago. Check there too. I'll post a photo of my DuBro modification in next day or so...
I've also had some issues with the covering pealing back a little here and there..

Anyone else pick-up the plain just behind the gear and hear a crunch? The reinforcements of the balsa/ply in that area just behind the fuel tank area are weak.. I made some spars to thinken-up that lower area so I could safety pick-up the plane from it's underside just behind the gear.

Yes, its a bit weak just behind the gear area. But since I know that.. I just handle it from the landing gear, wing tube & aft fuse. What Dubro mod are you talking off?
Speaking of mods, I want to convert the canopy to those spring latches.. I've seen those on h..king

Well, I put tristock in all the places I could reach inside the fuse. Plus I put scrap ply on the underside. So far I havent heard a crunch

I had issues with the peeling back as well, mainly because mine was in the box for nearly 4 years at the LHS and the covering is de-gumming due to moisture. I resolved it by using silver striping tape (1/8" wide) on all the trimcote seams

You can lookup my mods a couple of pages back

Here's a few photos of how I modified the DUBRO heavy duty landing gear to fit the stock holes on the 300S. Although, I cut away a good 1/3 of the gear, the resulting gear is super strong.. I've really come down hard on these and they keep going! You can see I've also added an extension on the tail pipe to help direct oil away from the gear area seams and model. Getting a almost dry model after flight now.. minus a little on the tail.

If you're feeling artsy, you can cut the gear to mold around the fuselage better than I did. But from ground, it looks good. I painted mine Red with Epoxy paint to match scheme on stock plane.

Actually it monsoon time and no flying till atleast end of this month. All my engines (except the 55ax on my trainer) are winterized (meaning I have put 3-in-1 oil everywhere I can reach) and packed up in polythene bags in boxes within my engine crate. Once I start using the 91 I have to keep it operational otherwise it gunks up a bit. I flew only that one day with the 91 on this airplane There was only the idle issue, topend was good and it didnt quit on me once I adjusted the top end. I think it was still a bit rich though because I had to fly it at 80-90 % in the first flight. Then, after retuning, it flew happily at 50% in the next

I will post a flight report after resuming flying with this airplane. I also have a scratch-&-dent FS110A waiting for this airplane (that one is actually lighter than the 91, dont ask me how)

Anyone interested in a like new (5 flights) airframe with servos. Cowl is cut for a 90fx. Airplane is in great shape, but I did have to repair landing gear from a grass landing(no damage to fuse). I'll post some pics if anyone is interested. Thanks.

I just got the new version that is up on tower to replace the previous one that I had wrecked.  They changed quite a bit.  I'll post build pics soon for you all to see.  Power will be an Evolution 120NX.

I just got home.  I'm going to work on it and I'll post pictures in a bit.  Off the top of my head I can tell you that the vertical stabilizer was already mounted and there is a slot for the horizontal.  On mine, it line up perfectly and the fit was tight enough that I didn't have to brace it too much while the epoxy was curing.  The access hatch runs from the turtle deck all the way to the rear of the firewall which has a box style mount now similar to other newer ARFS.  The fuel tank tray has been modified to accept batteries for electric setups and a mount adapter for BL motors came included in the hardware.  The landing gear mount plate has been reinforced with a lot of triangle stock too.  Also, the elevator servo placement was edited to accept the use of the precut 4-40 control rods for the elevators.  Precut 4-40 rods were included for the ailerons too.  Pics up soon.
