A photo of it would be great, please.

Sarah
I just got my supplementary kit in the post, although it was too late, as I had already fitted my own strengthening wires.

They supply a small strip of aluminum, (approx 3" x 3/8" by 3/32")which you have to drill three holes in. The middle hole is to screw it to the bottom of the fuselage, and the end two holes take the clevises.

Hope that helps!

Default Graupner Extra 300

I have only just bought my Graupner extra 300 and I am very impressed with it, even cutouts in the cowl for an OS 61 FX!

Mine does have a supplementary kit, though the aluminium strip is missing and the instructions, for the supplementary kit, are in German. Has anyone got the instructions for the supplementary kit in English as though I think I know what to do, it would be great to be able to read the instructions ( a scanned copy would be brilliant).

Mnay thanks,

Sarah

If you really want to see some awesome 300Ss, see the ones made by Vectorflight at www.vectorflight.com . Ive had both of theirs for at least a couple of years and there is still nothing that compares to them flight wise. The quality is just superb and the prices are unreal!

twort,
No the tail wasnt braced, I had gotten mine when they first came here to Germany so I never thought about it until I started reading about it happening to other folks. I am using an MDS .68 engine and a (I think) 12x7 APC Prop. If your wondering, that engine is really a great motor, tons of power.

Johnbone,

Thanks, Mine has a tail kit with the kit so hopefully that will make it strong enough. I haven't had time yet to start on it but I hope to in a few weeks. I am going to use a os 61. I don't think it will have unlimited vertical but I am hoping for at least 100 ft before it stops. I will let you know how it goes.

Hi all!

could someone tell me, what profile was used in Extra's wings?
I crashed mine today due to strona wind during landing.
50% of left wing is destroyed from tip to center.
I'm thinking about not repair, but make new wings with styrofoam and balsa covering.

thanks in advance for help

greetings

Default test flight

Flew mine to-day for the first time and with tailplane bracings of my own design in place and the flight went very well and the snap manouvers were fantastic even on low rates and the knife edge flight just seems to lock in rock steady left to right and right to left aerobatics really smooth and loops as big as you like but on landing one of my top bracing wires had broken at the bend on the flattened brass tube and the other one had lost the screw securing them to the fin but no damage was sustained and the rigging wires underneath the tailplane were still in tact, power is a Supertigre G90 with a Graupner 14X7 prop and 5% nitro full synthetic fuel. So it seems that the tail takes an awful lot of stess during violent manouvers SO BEWARE AND FIT THOSE BRACINGS.
and enjoy the thrill. All repaired now ready for some more fun.

Flew ours this weekend. Plane tracks straight and true . Did not like the insturctions the english ones are lacking to the new comer. The german instruction have the pic and etc. and look more detailed. I enlisted the help of a more experienced builder to check behind me. I think the secret to the tail is not to cut into it use an iron to melt covering away. On our second day of flying we had a midair and the other plane went in we did not even get a scratch. Very Lucky. Hardest thing was the checker board on the cowl. Any suggestions here. PLane has an os 61 fx in it if you want to hover probably need a 91. Over all very satisfied with plane.

Hi,
I ordered one of these recently (before spotting the problem with the Horz. Stab.)
I got onto www.graupner.de a.s.a.p.

They replied :
Quote "I just talked to the Export Manager. Only a few models of 6251 of the first
series had problems with the horizontal stabilizers, and this problem was
already rectified 1.5 years ago. So there is hardly any risk for you now.
If you observe the safety hints in the instructions, you are on the safe
side."

Which leaves me to ask the question....
How are you guy's getting this problem as late as June 2003 !
Did you just get old stock ?

Am i being told pork pies (lies) by a certain company ?

I ordered mine from Germany so I hope it's the newer one refered to in the mail
I asked for a batch no. to check but received no reply as of yet !

Hi Rob,

The addendum sheet is actually dated 03/2003, so it was either issued or modified at that time.

I'll definately be playing safe and incorporating the modification.

By the way this problem is not specific to just the Graupner Extra 300, I have heard of a few models that can shear the horizontal stabiliser when pulling up too steep.

Hi
With regard to the tailplane mods to this kit, I bought my first one in Feb. this year and it didn`t have the upgrade in the kit but I have since bought another in June and it did also the cowl is now solid so that you can cut it for whatever engine you are going to use. Both kits were bought from Hobbystores and they said that they know of no problems with the tailplane failures, so your guess is as good as mine? somebody knows something though otherwise they wouldn`t have modified the tail??
They do fly very well but you have to watch you don`t put too much throw on the controls particularly the elevator, don`t ask me how I know?!

Thats not the story I got when I sent my original email to HobbyLobby and Graupner.

The Graupner rep told me to go thru HobbyLobby(had a new plane in 5 days way to go HobbyLobby) which I did and that they were aware of the problem back at the factory and would be sending the retro kits to the distribtors in the US.

It sounds like Graupner is blowing you off I got mine in June

Hey Guys- We have 3 Extra 300's here at the hangar. One with an OS 61 FX, one with a 60LA and the third to probably get a 91 4-stroke. The first two have flown and fly great. The 61's fit perfect in the cowlings, and are matched well with their size. One kit came with tail braces and the other two did not. The one with the braces was purchased after all the others (probably a month or so ago). I did not read all of the other replies, but we will be retrofitting braces to the other two, and replacing the fuel tanks in favor of larger ones. All the aircraft's owners are very pleased with the flying characteristics and value of these aircraft.

Hi,
My model arrived today.
I haven't had a chance to have a good luck yet (I'm in work) but it does look good so far and is light !
The version I have has the solid cowl too - have to go look for a pitts muffler now !!
I presume as it is the solid cowl version it's also probably the updated version too.

Splatt1o1 and Aviator2002 did your replacement have braces or an updated stab ?

Thanks for all the replies guy's !

now thats what i call BULL#$%#
graupner just found this out
we purchased in total 5 pieces on our field
and ONE yes ONE survived only
after many complaines they gave us new ones and sayed they found no problems
however suddenly we got a small bag of extra parts to fix the horizontal stabs (reinforced)

this all happened only 4 months ago
after seeing all this i went for the GP extra

I am about halfway through assembling my Graupner Extra 300, but I seem to have a couple of pices which I can't see will be used .

Can anyone let me know what the two brass pieces, in the bottom of the photo, are used for. The two top pieces are from the addendum kit to brace the tail (I know where they go!).

Many thanks,

Sarah

this is what i mean about "no we have no problem with the elevators coming of"
if i am not mistaking there was a small bag with a picture and these parts
these are used to "fix"your elevators
there should be also a small alu part to go under your tailwheel

Hi Klimmen,

I know about the kit to 'fix' the elevator problem. The parts for this were in the kit, along with an addendum sheet. The parts which go through the horizontal stabiliser are in the top of the photograph (included as a comparision only).

The bits in the bottom of the photograph, though similiar, are from the main parts bag and I do not know where they go, or if they are surplus. These are the bits that I would like help in identifying.

Regards,

Sarah

hi "Bristol"

well then you are lucky you have spare parts

just be carefull with the kit , we destroyed 5 of them within 6 weeks (not the same owner)
they just exploded ( stabilizer came off)
graupner still today "there is no problem"
anyway we all went for the extra 300 arf from great planes
and have no problems
