RE: *New Hanger 9 Pulse XT 60*
I side mounted a ST 61 on my Pulse XT 60 and used the 45 degree silicone extension on my muffler and I don't get enough oil on my entire plane to grease the tip of one finger after about an hours flying. For this reason alone this is the best and only way to mount the engine. I've always heard it is easier on your plane to mount your engine sidways also.

Hey Jim:
Why would you want to cut up a large side of the cowl for a side mount? You will find that a fairly large area of the cowl needs to be removed for an upright mounting, but that cylinder head looks cool (and stays cool) in a vertical mount. It also makes it easier to get at the fuel and pressure lines. I have a .75AX in mine, and it flies the plane like its on rails. Good luck.

Thanks to 82blackbird, w8ye, and KennyG for your input. I will give it some more thought. Sounds like either engine orientation has its pros and cons. I am just happy to hear its a great flier.
Have any of you put floats on the Pulse xt 60? I bought a extra main landing gear and have a pair of 41 and 1/2 inch fiberglass discontinued floats from Sig. The length and step location look right on.

flylower,
I have a brand new set in my house somewhere from my last Pulse build. Are you interested in them if I can locate them?

I too fly from a grass field but love the pants so go through a set about every 3 months. WesleyK [8D] earlier in this thread, supplied me with a set which I am still using (very nice guy indeed).
Please let me know if you would be willing to part with the pants also.

I'm still looking for the bolts.
I sold a set of those wheel pants to someone on this board. When I did that I still had a set to put on my
Pulse if I ever wanted to. That Pulse met an untimely demise and I bought another because I liked how it flew.
Now I am back up to 2 set of wheel pants again.
I will elt you know as about the wheel pants as soon as I find the wing bolts.

I took my Pulse out yesterday. The landing gear came off on the first flight and smashed the horizontal tail surfaces. This is a real drag.
It has only been complete for a couple of months. I checked the Horizon website. The Horizontal tail surfaces are on back order until sometime in January.
I am begining to dislike airplanes.

Hi James,
Sorry about your mishap. Was it windy out? I am still having trouble with that. Only been flying a year and a half.
My trainer made it for a year of flying then on a windy day it turned in the direction of the flight line during landing and I tried to make a controlled stop into the tennis net and it hit the post. End of fuse.
Question? I am building a Pulse 60 right now ane trying to carefully open that fuel tank access door that falls off for everybody. It is in there pretty tight. Should I just pry it up? Which end first as I do not want to damage it. How it is held in? Nothing in instructions about this...............
Thanks,
Jim Clousing

Thanks Bruce,
I will try to remove it after work. At least I know which end to lift.

Then lift the back enough to clear the fuse and slide off the front pegs. It's not a bad setup, although I do 'lock' mine in place since it came off once during a rough landing.

I have the horizontal stab for my first Pulse XT 60 in the storage barn that I believe is undamaged. I have company at the moment but as soon as they leave I'll check it out to make sure and let you know. If so, I'll trade you for the wheel pants and wing bolts.

When you remove the hatch, take a look at the 'dowels' in the front of the hatch. I simply installed a similar 'dowel' that I can slide back into the fuse. The slide lever is hardly noticible on the top of the hatch, and I haven't had a problem since. There must be a hundred ways to 'lock' the hatch on, but if you are really interested I'll post some pic's.
