RE: *New Hanger 9 Pulse XT 60*
The root cause of the hatch coming off in flight is the fuel tank. The velcro straps loosen over time due to heat and tension. This
causes the fuel tank to slide toward the rear of the airplane. The fuel tank hits one of the formers built into the hatch. This causes it
to detatch it from the magnets on the fuse and then come off in flight. I folded a rag up and stuffed it behind the fuel tank. It stopped
the tank from sliding back an popping the hatch off.
I replaced the small steel screws that held the landing gear on with larger nylon screws. I added a third screw add a little more
gripping power. This was done to protect the landing gear area from coming apart during rough landings. The heads seam to snap
off during landings.
I still have the horizontal tail surfaces fom the previous Pulse. I am going consult with my flying buddies to see if it will work without
more reinforcements.

Hi Jim & James,
My hatch popping off was due simply to a rough landing, as I have no fuel tank. I fly electric exclusively. I also purposely did not use nylon screws because when the heads pop off, the landing gear still tears up the horizontal stabilizer and/or the wing (ask me how I know). The bead of epoxy I added to my landing gear bracing was in addition to the epoxy they (Hanger 9) used. I added no wood at all, just an epoxy bead for added strength, and haven't had a problem since, and believe me I do have my share of rough landings.
My purpose for posting is to share my knowledge and to benefit from others knowledge. I enjoy the different threads, and try to contribute occassionaly. If my posts benefit anyone that is wonderful. If not, that is wonderful also. I feel a bond with my fellow flyers and I've only been in the hobby for 3 1/2 years. And I especially feel a bond with flyers who fly the same planes I do.
I don't consider this a competition to see who can give the best advice. I feel it's to help make the hobby more enjoyable for fellow flyers.
Thanks for allowing me to share with you and for sharing with me. I truely value your online friendship and advice.
I wish both of you the best with your XT 60's. It's a great flyer.
What a wonderful hobby! [8D]

Hi James43,
It appears you won't be needing my tail feathers after all. Should you decide later that you do, just let me know.
In the meantime, I still am interested in the wing bolts and wheel pants. Any chance of you parting with them?
Thanks [8D]

As soon as I locate the wing bolts I will let you know. I was looking in the instruction book last night hoping to figure out which bag held the wing bolts.
As it is, the wheel pants are yours.

RE: *New Hanger 9 Pulse XT 60*
Hi All,
I am in the midst of building a Pulse 60 with an OS 75 and was hoping for guidance on some issues I'm having.
Have other flyers found it necessary or helpful to cut a hole in the bottom of the cowl for proper air flow? I would think that the ports on either side of the crankshaft and the generous hole on the top of the cowl would be sufficient but don't want to fry my new engine. If a hole in the bottom is a good idea, what size?
Also, I epoxied the wing dowels in place as per the instructions only to find that they don't match up with the holes in the fuselage. When trying to slide the front of the wings into place the two dowels are roughly 1/16" to the outside of their homes. The wings are flush when put together so there's no leeway there. I'm thinking of the following options, none of which are appealing: a) sanding down the dowels, b) re-drilling the holes in the fuse, c) drilling out the dowels and starting over, d) leaving a lighted bag of poop on Horizon's doorstep. Any thoughts on these or other options? I hear that wings are important so I don't want to mess this up.
Many thanks in advance for any feedback, this forum has been of great help.

Salter, if you have mounted your engine vertically as per instructions, there is no need for a vent in the bottom of the cowling. I mounted an OS 61 AX this way and have had no over heating problems. With respect to the wing dowels, mine fit perfectly. In your case I would open the holes in right direction just enough to allow them to fit. This should work fine.

I also had to open the holes on the fuse side, as my dowels also would not fit after correct installation. I just carefully used a dremel to grind the holes just enough to get the dowels to fit. It worked fine until the first crash at which point you'll have to reinstall new dowels anyway as they tend to be sacroficial and break off when the wings come off. It will work fine but it would be nice if they were more careful at the factory.

It would be possible to glue a piece of wood behind the wing rod holes then drill the holes in the proper place. That way there won't be any side play in the wings. .0625 is a good bit of wobble in the wing. Vibration could wear the rods over time.

Anyone using 3.25 dia. wheels on the Pulse XT 60? Thought it might help prevent nose over probems on our grass field. Thanks

RE: *New Hanger 9 Pulse XT 60*
My new pulse had her maiden flight yesterday. I am a very low time RC pilot, my instuctor took it up and with very minor elevator trim she would fly hands off. That Saito 100 sounds and performs great. I went with the 3.25 wheels, they worked great on our grass field. This forum has been a great source of information before and during the building of my pulse. I would like to say thanks to everyone who posted problems and solutions you made it much easier and aided greatly in my success. THANKS...

I am using Magnum 91 4-Stroke. I am disappointed in the performance my aircraft was wondering if anyone had used an os75 ax to power their pulse 60.

On my pulse 60 with a 91 4 stroke, I am currently using an apc 14x6. The other prop I used was an apc 13x8 which produced more speed. One of these sizes would probably help with performance.
