RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
Hi, could you please post some pics of your cowling with the .46 and pitts? I would like to see how well the pitts fits inside the cowling. Also which brand pitts are you using. I would like to use my .55 with Bisson pitts out of my GP Revolver for this build. It looks like the Slimline might be a better fit though. Your info and pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a Saito 82 with a 14x6 prop and it has plenty of power. I have a total of four flights on mine and I'm not too impressed with the way it flies so far. Maybe the more I fly it the more I will like it. One thing I did was add bigger magnets because my canopy flew off on the first and second flight. After adding more magnets the canopy seems to be fine. On my fourth flight I rung it out with blenders, waterfalls, and some harsh snaps and the canopy did not come off. It's a beautiful plane, I just hope the more I fly it, the more I will like it.

I'm wondering about the 55AX also. In a 4*40 at 4lb, 7oz- way over the top power. In a 5lb, 6oz Cox Giles 202- great match up. How will it be at 6lbs?
I also have a Saito 82 that worked great in a 5lb, 12oz Zero.
I really this Extra, but do not want it lacking in the power department.

This is the servo they show in the manual and the one I used: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPB32&P=M
It works fine.
You can probably do the linkage on your Saito just like they show the OS 4-stroke in the manual.

The linkage for the Saito is different than the OS. I will try to post a picture tomorrow. It's really easy to make.

FYI tower is currently offering a $20 credit or $10 rebate for this and other planes. Here's the [link=http://www.towerhobbies.com/promos/09mj/rebate/fly_now_spring_rebate_form.pdf]rebate form[/link]. Also for tower SSC members, use part number [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0095p?FVPROFIL=&FVSEARCH=ed3011]ED3011[/link] for a $5 discount on top of the monthly discounts. Just thought I would add that info for anybody considering the purchase of this plane.

I never thought of this when putting mine together but I wonder if there is enough room next to the tank to put the servo in from the inside and still have clearance for the arm? If so, I wonder if that would allow for a more straight throttle pushrod connection? There might not be but I'm curious now. I may pull my cowl off and take a look.

Well add me to the list of people who bought one of these awesome little planes. I plan on going glow not electric. I would also love to throw a OS .55 AX in this sucker but no one seem to have done this yet. I am looking for unlimited vertical as I love 3D and just messin around. I really need the power to save me as I love to fly low and sometimes need a "get outta jail free card" aka power hahaha. I would love to get a big 4 stroke in here but I cant justify the cost on this plane as I just want it to mess around, its gonna be my weekend warrior if you will. I will do my best to also take pics and document the build but I am horrible at stopping and taking pics, I always forget to do that until its too late.

I think the .55 will be an excellent match for the airplane. I've flown on on a GP revolver and an OMP profile and it was very nice on both.

i mounted it in the rear of the last plane and it seemed well balanced - was about 5mm off the cg point. then the plane crashed due to a seized servo on first flight now i need to build it again and wandering should i try it in middle - if balances leave it or push to rear - with it at the rear i had to have my battery mounted right up beside the fuel tank - nearly on top of it lol

so wandering if i pulled the servo forward and moved the battery to its proper servo tray would this not help the cg? instead of servo at rear, battery in proper tray and then add lead weight to front

Tulljt:
Is that a cover I see over the opening to the fuse? I was wondering previously about necessity of doing that. You did that for sake of airflow through the cowl?
Along with the throttle servo, seems you've thought of everything

Yep, I placed covers over both sides. Someone mentioned it and with the reports of the canopy coming off, I thought why not. With the electric you cut a hole in the bottom, but with the glow the air would just pack into the fuse. It flies Saturday so we'll see.

RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
Well, it looks like I might keep this one afterall. I finally quit trying to make an extra fly like a yak or katana and flew the snot out of it. I finally understand the phrase "fly it like you hate it". I was doing full throttle multiple snaps, walls, and blenders and this plane took it without a whimper. I think I finally found my much sought after beater plane! When I finally stopped trying to make it into one of my other planes I started to actually have fun with it. I'm sure there's a deep lesson here somewhere about acceptance, maybe I should go watch karate kid or something.
