Been looking at one of these for a possible electric setup, but if it weighs what they think it will, I'd have to buy new batteries to power it with, course OTOH, I do have a saito 100 that just happens to need a new home.

well, I pulled the trigger today at the LHS and had em order one for me. They said they were told early Feb. so it could show up in the next couple of weeks or it could be the end of the month so we'll see. My question is about the recommended motor for electric. Does anyone else have any experience with this motor? I'm definitely wanting 3d power, but that means I need to get some new packs to go with seeing as how they say it needs a 6s setup. I've got plenty of 4s batteries and I was thinking of using an eflite power 46 so the packs I've got would be ok, but if the power isn't gonna be enough then I might forget about doing electric right now and put a saito 100 on that I've got spare.

I think the electric setup really boils down to how you want to fly it. standard aerobatic and sport flying would be fine with less and more 3D type stuff will need something more potent. I'm not familiar with the recommended setup so I can't really say how it is.

I think I'm going to order a YS-63 for mine. No reason really other than I've never owned one before and figure I'll try it out. From what I've seen it should power the Extra very well.

I went with the GP setup in my 50" Edge. I thought it was a very good balance of weight and power. It would hover a little over 1/2 throttle. It had plenty of power for me. My flying buddy set his up with a bigger motor and batteries. It had crazy power but I don't think it flew nearly as good as mine did. To each there own. He liked his better than mine though. His would hover about 1/4 throttle.

I think the e-flite 60 would be better choice for 3d and hovering.

I agree, the 60 will be a better choice if I want to go eflite on the motor, but I'm trying to avoid buying new batteries right now. I'll wait till I get her built and see what kind of weight I'm actually looking at before I decide for sure on the motor.

On the upside, the planes look like they came in early, I was at the LHS and they told me they received a shipping confirmation on the plane, looks like I'll have it in my hands tuesday or wednesday.[8D]

I got my plane today and I'm pretty impressed so far. The packing was good, the covering looked good, and the plane looks so much better than in the pics. While I was unpacking I spotted a couple of areas to shed a little bit of weight. The alum gear and wing tube will probably be replaced with carbon fiber, I'm thinking about cutting the bottom of the canopy hatch out also. Any other suggestions guys?

I'm gonna use hitec 225mg servos and an AR6200 rx for control duties. I've got an eflite power 46 that I'm gonna try first and see how it does before I decide if I'll need a bigger motor and buy new lipo's. I've got 4 cell TP 3850's right now and if it turns out to be not enough, I'll just pick up a couple of 2 cells and go in series to get my voltage up for a bigger motor. I'm also gonna pass on the recommended electric motor mount and use some lightweight alum standoffs and try and shed a few ounces there also. At 4.9 oz for the gp mount I think I can come up with a lighter solution.

Looks nice. let us know how it goes together. Mine is scheduled to arrive on Friday. I have to finish up my Cermark Yak first before I can start on it. I may take a weekend and rearrange my garage and make more airplane storage room before I get going on the Extra too.

I finally bit the bullet ordered one today i'm going to try the electric version i was also a sucker for the color scheme great planes have doing a really good job at taking my money lately. Ever since the reactor bipe came out it seems like i've been buying a new plane every three weeks im a real sucker when it comes to pretty new toy airplanes.

I called Tower Hobbies, and they told me that a 46 AX would have no trouble flying it. I can also swap out the 55 AX on my Tango and put it on the Extra, since it seems over powered. If a two-stroke requires a pitts muffler, then I may wait and buy the recommended four-stroke.

I would prefer the OS, actually. They run nice, and are easily obtainable. The color of the head also seems to match the cowl. I'm sure a Saito would be better, but they're more expensive. A Thunder Tiger or Magnum would be the most affordable, but they also don't have the nice look and finish of the Saito and OS. I would keep the size consistent with the manufacturer's recommendations. I guess I better start finding a new home for the two Slow Pokes.

I would put an extra OS 70 Surpass II (black top) in it, and I know it would be perfect for this new plane. Really considering getting it, but I have three ARFs waiting on me, and I am building a 4th one right now. This plane does look great though, and the video makes it look like it flies light. Still might get it! Jon

I'm looking forward to when gr8taz nitro gets his finished with the Power 46 electric motor. I'm fairly certain the videos were made with the OS FSa 81. Note how the model hovers, taking advantage of the large prop's air volume over the control surfaces. A smaller engine like the 46 AX will probably make it fly more scale and lack the ability to do 3D maneuvers. I bet it would still look nice in the air with standard stunts, though.
