Hi all,
I crashed my arf thanks to my fm radio, total right off. it flew beautifully untill i got further away with confidenceand fell out of the sky like a stone.
her indoors was with me and encouraged me to go again. honestly its like planning to have another child. i purchased the gold kit to keep the cost down. a new arf would cost me 500 sterling,i also got a new spectrum 2.4radio and ar7000 receiever. plus saito fg 20.
i live 500 yards from a small army base. the kit was nice to build very challengeing in places. ibuilt out thefirewall to allow me to use the ali mount with thesaito fg 20. i flew during the week, the irish weather dreadful at the this last few weeks. the engine is really well suited to this machine. i used a 15* 6 prop. it is a lovely setup and flies great. radio reception is terrific.
i flew for 35 minutes on a half tank of fuel.

Here is the engine install so far. The fill and vent lines are ran high to prevent siphoning, the carb line has a down slope to it in hopes of creating a little siphon effect, hopefully this will aid in removing the in flight lean condition that is happening with most FG-20's.
I am also working on the interior.

I am new here, I read this thread and curious about the outcome of your TF Cessna 182 with Saito FG20?
I just purchase TF Cessna 182 ARF and thinking what kind of a gas power plant that I can use to fly this bird. The FG 20 seems a good engine, but reading the thread about the FG20 is kind of discouraging way. Please let me know hows your bird flying with the FG20.
Thanks,
Ben

Speedracer,
Thanks for the info. Thanks for the offer too. Sorry I am considering the JBA J15G 15cc, selling for $199.95, the RC Aero YD-A 23cc tag price of $269.00 will be available late October, and the DLE20, with a price tag of $269.99, that will be in the market soon.
Regards,
Ben

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
Hi guys
My Cessna is just about finished with on and off work in weekends.
A few questions though
1. I have installed the robart 654 strut and wondering if I need to reinforce any areas to make sure it doesnt rip off during landing- Will be flying off grass
2. Should I have the engine cowl on or off for the first flight?
Thanks
George

Hi BoomerranGuy - If you look into earlier pages on this thread, you will see that many people either fiberglass the entire firewall/nose gear mount and or they add 1/8 ply. This is definately a week area on this plane and should be reinforced. Hope that helps.

BoomerranGu, i don't know about ARF, but my kit version i did nothing, just placed the new robart struct and is working fine.
Also, i've made my cessna maiden flight this weekend
Here is the video of taxi test before flight, and you can see how important is this struct for grass:

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
I've just started assembling mine. One quick question: Can anyone tell me is the plywood support for the aileron control horn nearest the end of the aileron with the little vent hole in it, or the end without?
Thanks for any help...!

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
I started assembling this lovely Cessna last week. I have very limited time and after 2 afternoons the wings are ready with custom lights!
2 question so far about the next steps!
1) What would be the best way to reinforce the firewall?
2) Are there any engine templates for cowl cutting? I have the Saito 125.
General questions:
Is it mandatory to cut the cowl for ventilation? Since this will void the scale appearance!!
The robart strut fits spot on, or does it need modification?

Hi guys
My cessna's rudder does have quite a bit of play in it.[]
While does some taxiing today it was vibrating a bit at idle but not as bad when at full throttle.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

...Yes!
Meaning that one aileron had the plywood support near the hole end; the other near the end without, as I discovered when I held each one up to a very bright light and so could just make out the sillouette of the support plywood.
Glad I checked both ailerons, and I recommend other assemblers do the same.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
I've read the whole thread nad 2 weeks ago I started building this Cessna!!
What a beauty!!!!
I didn't see anyone mention about lighting. I've replaced the nav lights with better ones and I included white leds on the wingtips too, that will be programmed as strobes!
I've searched a lot, but couldn't find anything for the real Cessna 182 Skylane lights!! Does it have beacon under the fuselage too? Is there any diagram?

I have these lights:
1 red beacon on the rudder
1 white strobe on the tail
2 white in cowl
1 red in wing
1 green in wing
2 white strobes in wing, one each side
All these are LED`s with 0,5W and whide angle....you can see even in sunlight! I'm just waiting to my manufacturer finish my PCB to install my light`s electronic.

I suppose the 2 strobes on the wing tips flash on the same pattern, without a delay, right?

If you have not already purchased your lights, you may want to check out this site: http://www.scaleflying.com/LED-Scale...on41_p_16.html I am using this light set for a TF Bonanza 1/5 scale kit that I am building.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
Thanx for the info!
I already got the lights! I use the kit from delight controller. Fully PC programmable and they provide ultra high density LEDs!
Very happy on all my planes!!

Here's the standard lighting config on a 182.
Mars rotating beacon on top vertical stab.
White nav (not strobe) on tail cone.
Navs and strobes on wing tips. (strobes flash in series of 3 flashes/delay/3flashes/delay, etc.
Landing lights in cowl...or in leading edge of port side wing (later models).
