My radios have "Thottle down" and "Throttle kill" functions (not all radios do). Both allow you to define a percent by which you close the throttle. So "throttle down" allows you to fly with a slightly higher idle, so - less chance of the engine dying in the air (if you're doing moves where you take the throttle down to idle, like stall turns or flat spins). (I believe you can use "throttle curve" the same way as "throttle down"). Then, as discussed, you hit the Throttle down toggle just before landing (depending on how much lead time that particular engine needs to come down to landing idle). If the engine idle is THEN too low and it does die, at least you're already coasting in for landing - usually a pretty safe place for a dead stick. (nitro engines are more susepcatlbe to "loading up" and dying after being on low idle for a while, so I usually DO "blip" the throttle just before and after landing, so that it doesn't die after rolling out, 300 feet down the runway.) With "Throttle kill" you just define a much higher percentage movement - 10-20% - which I use on nitro engines to completely close the carb and kill the engine. On gassers, of course, I use a remote kill switch (which is a requirement for all gassers at my clubs). And you can also use a choke servo for remote kill.

About your DLE 20 coming down to idle very slowly - you may be a little lean on the low end. Though there seems to be a fine line on the DLE20 between too lean and too rich. One solution I've read for this issue to to buy an EI for the DLE55, though that's another $75. Or try another EI you may have laying around.

Ah I think mine only has a throttle cut button. hit that and the carb closes engine dies (well as you said, on a glow engine) on the DLE I use a servo on the carb to do the job, works well.
I did check and recheck my mix i was actually too rich with a fouled plug at that point. I think it's in a good place now. Though I've not flown in over a year now. I never heard of an EI then again I'm relatively new to gas.

The EI is the electronic ignition.

I didnt realize I could use an EI for a different engine on mine! I'll save up for that 55 one! I can use my life pack without diods now yay!

I just discovered this thread after reading a much smaller thread on RCG. I just bought my Revolver 70 and fabricated my landing gear brace as suggested by others. I have a newer OS .91FX (been hiding in storage for a very long time) that will be turning a 14x6 APC. Alhicks recommends moving the CG back a good 1/2" aft of what the manual recommends and I plan on doing that also. Are there any other suggestions/mods that I should be aware of? Please don't say "read the entire thread"...lol.
Cheers
Mike

Hi Mike,

For a great summary of the mods that a lot of the guys have done to their Rev 70s when they are using a DLE 20 check out wjcalhoun's entry on page 152 post #3777. All credit goes to him.

Default Best way to mark cut outs for cowl?

I've built a dozen or so planes in my time but have never had to mark out the cut outs on the cowl for the cylinder head and muffler stacks.....any suggestions will be welcome.

Here's one example. There are dozens of videos to review that should give you a good start.

Using the method shown in the video above I've made the engine head exit.....needs a little touch up with sandpaper and then to make the exhaust pipe and needle valve exit to complete.

Had to cut a lot off the bottom of the cowl so the muffler and pipes would fit but oh well.

I've got a question in regards to installing and gluing the horizontal stabilizer. Do I slide it into the fuse and once satisfied with its position make a fillet of epoxy/micro balloons where is joins the fuse?

Slide it to each side and smear epoxy around the stab so when you slide it back in the glue goes inside the joint. Clean up the excess before it dries with paper towel and alcohol.

Default Fuel tank needed

I finally had the fuel tank split on my Revolver. It is the 422cc tank that came with the kit.
I cannot seem to find the exact replacement tank. If anybody still has the fuel tank that built this plane as an electric and still has the 422cc tank, i would like to purchase this.
Thanks for looking!
Chris

I have the stock tank but bought a DuBro to replace it so if you want mine you are welcome to it. Just pay the shipping and it's yours (I'm in Canada).

Hi Chris, send me a PM with your address and phone number. I'll mail it out and when I get back from the post office I'll PM you with the cost and then you can PayPal me the funds (it won't be much lol).

Cowl is pretty tight. A LOT less hacking with the rear exhaust version...

Wild Willy, you are going to use a 20cc on the DLE55 Airplane? I have a DLE55 on mine and it is a nice performing airplane. If your putting the 20cc on the DLE55 Airplane, your in for a very sad surprise.
