You are going to get a bunch of different opinions I like the DX7 I had one a few years ago for heli then sold all the heli stuff along with the radio. It served me well. I recently bought the DX7 again since I started flying again. Spektrum,Futaba are all good they just work differently and each have their own weak points.

RE: Best 2.4G for $300.00 ???
G'day
How long is a piece of string?
Seriously, any of the major brands are fine. Futaba, JR/Spectrum, Hitec, Sanwa. All make good radios. Get hold of some and feel how they fit in your hands, check out the features for what you need.
I have JR, Spektrum and Hitec as well as an old JR 2610 converted with a cheap Fly-Dream module. All work well.
I don't have any Futaba transmitters simply because they don't feel right in my hands. My hands are on the small side and the smaller transmitters feel better to me. I did have an old Futaba years ago which I liked a lot.
Have fun choosing. That is what it is all about.

I have both the Spektrum DX6i and the DX7. Both are fine radios, both are full range radios.
Another one to look at is the Airtronics RDS8000. Solid radio with a great reputation.

I have the Futaba 7C and the Airtronics RDS8000. Both function flawlessly. The Airtronics gives you a budget advantage, both as to initial cost and additional receivers. I like them both. I did change out the original battery for a higher capacity on both.
I am partial to the frequency hopping technology.

I have both of those also. I prefer the Futaba 7ch because it has exponential and dual rate on the rudder while the Airtronics does not. Other than that, the Airtronics is very nice too. Jon

One of the best only costs $230 and comes with 2 RXs.
Hitec Optic 6 is worth a look. It does a bunch of things more expensive radios do.

Futaba, still too many posts about people getting lock outs with Spektrum and JR 2.4

You know, every darned time the threads start about radios, this begins to happen. We get the old "lock out" or "overheated receiver" issues. It's like that magic button that gets pushed and out come the negativity. Then the nastyness begins to show up.
Come on, guys.. stick with the facts and stay on subject. No one needs to hear this crap. Contribute something useful.

Another for Futaba 7C
At Tower you can get the 7C, 4 Futaba 3004 servos, receiver and receiver battery for $320 delivered. Or TX and RX for $280.

Yeah, there are some pretty good deals out there. Tower has the Airtronics 2.4 8 channel RDS8000 for $219.99, TX and RX with battery, I believe. Their basic servo, same as the Futaba, is $9.99 each so four servos and the TX/RX is $259.00. Not a bad deal either.

Anyone know what this is?
Airtronics RDS8000 8-Channel 2.4GHz Crawler Tx/Rx
It's another 2.4 GHz radio in the OP price range, this one for $239.99 with TX/RX only.
What is a "crawler" radio? It's listed as an airborne radio, so I have to assume it's for aircraft, but "Crawler"? There is no description at Tower nor at the Airtronics web site. Here on the East Coast, a crawler is some kind of a doughnut..

I believe it's the same as the air version other than the self-centering left gimbal.
Don't ask me what the Crawlers need it for (independent rear steering control I guess), I'm not into that myself!

I believe it refers to those sad souls who remain stuck on wheels and muck about in the dirt. R/C earth-bound vehicles.
Large print, small words and lots of pictures.
RDSCRAWL2RX Airtronics RDS8000 2.4G Crawler w/1-Tx/2-Rx only The RDS8000 "Crawler Edition" is a specially modified version of the full-featured 8-channel RDS8000 radio system. You'll find that both sticks "center" and in the instruction manual, Airtronics has included the setup guide for installing and using the radio for Crawling. The Crawler radio allows programming options to control 4 wheel steering and independent front and rear motor control packed with capabilities for dig on dual motor Super Class Crawlers. And because the mixing and functions are programmable, you can use the radio in a variety of ways!

If your stupid enough to fly with a low Rx battery, then you deserve to lose your plane. Futaba users keep living in the past. Spektrum's come back from brownout instantly now, problem solved. If you get a "lock out" now, YOU let the Rx battery go dead in the air. Let's move on.
And for the record, I own and fly with both. Unlike others, I make sure the have a proper bind and charge batterys.

I think in fairness it needs to brought out that low batteries does not appear to be the cause of most
of the Spektrum lock outs.
