Default RE: Engine question

If I had my druthers I would put a gas engine in a plane that big. The fuel costs alone make it worth while. Glow fuel at ~$16/gallon as opposed to gasoline at ~$3/gallon. No brainer in my opinion. I'm through buying glow engines for just this reason. My glow fuel bills last year were right around $750 and I'd like to knock that down a bit by going with gas.

Hope this helps

Ken

Thanks Ken and Jaka, I will get a gas engine. Now a couple of questions. I have never had any problems with my OS engines. Can I expect the same reliablity from gas?

There's a lot less goo to clean off at the end of the day with gasoline powered engines. If I built a plane that big, it would be gas.

probably a .70 size 4 stroke would be at the upper end and a .61 at the lower end.

Hi!
Saito .56 and 12x6 APC ...In reply to what is best 4-stroke for a Kyosho .40 warbird.

As for what is more reliable gas or glow...that's simple... gas.
I admit that big 26cc glow engines like MVVS and OS are very reliable , my MVVS 25cc glow engine in my SIG CAP 231 EX hasn't malfunctioned or stopped once prematurely in 4 years running and has a very reliable low idle at 1800-2000 rpm. But a gas engine is even more reliable and it's cheaper in the long run och cleaner too.

I think my glow bill in the last year is about $32. Still working on the second gallon. I fly for quality not quantity. Been real busy. I go out about every other week. Stick a "Extreme Speed" up in the air for 5 minutes. Then say "phew" that felt like 3 hours and go home.

Cyclic,
Even though I fly a lot, I too fly for quality. There are days I will go out and fly one flight and then sit in the stands the rest of the day talking with buddies. Then there are days I will go out and fly 10-15 flights, but it doesn't have anything to do with quantity. It's what I feel like flying that day.
