RE: Bridi XLT Build
Hey Pete, I have many things going on so will be slow in my response back. You asked about the inverted engine? I suppose I need to say that I managed to talk my old flying buddy in N.C. into making me a fuse that he did. He got tired of the balsa one coming out way heavy, so he did it up in fiberglass. The front end was made to accommadate an inverted YS .91. With that in mind, I had to do some thinking on how to fit my 15cc gas engine into it. As it turned out, it fit perfect. As for the landing gear, I first has some other 2 piece carbon fiber gear installed through slits in the sides of the fuse which looked great. Only after I got everything installed, covered and painted, the gear was so springy and thin that I pulled them out and found the one piece carbon gear you see now. I had to cut out the whole bottom to install, but hey, you don't see it while it's in the air or sitting on the ground, unless inverted. I have not flown it yet, but plan on it in the next week or two. The weather has been crappy here. Oh, as for weight, even with a gas engine, it weighs in at 8.2 pounds. I was hoping for 7 1/2, but still happy with that. Ask questions, as I be glad to answer and help. Later...Dennis

I bought some balsa to complete a plan built model, not the Great Escape. Given the price of the kit from Bridiairplanes, it a pretty good price considering you get all the hardware for the build.

Guys,
If anyone is interested Dan @ Laser Technologies (636) 462-7400 can cut the XLT. He laser cut a few XLT short kits for me. The short kits look great. He is working on Bridi's Mama Mia now. Don @ Eureka Aircraft can cut the foam wing and stab for the XLT.

that is Dave Guerin's XLT. Dave is a professional master builder and finisher. I believe he is located in the South Carolina/Georgia area but not sure.
If you look up Berusty's (RCU handle) threads here on the forum, you'll come across a number of classics that he built/finished. You could contact Rusty to inquire about Dave's phone number/contacts.
His work is impeccable and he would do a wonderful job on your Arrow.

I saw Rusty's Blue Angel that Dave Guerin built and finished. It was a masterpiece. The film was amazing, not a mark on it. The fuselage is paint and was flawless. I have enjoyed competing in events where finish is a big part of the score, and this model was very impressive.
If you can get Dave to restore your model, you won't regret it.

I built one of these too, really just as I was getting out of pattern in 1992. It was $99, and I was thinking of Advanced, but only flew it in one contest. Heavily modified; flattened the fuse bottom, stretched the fuse 3", Increased the rudder 2x, finished the turtle deck to the fin, build a belly pan, and put my worn out OS .61RF pumper inverted in there, with the pipe in the pan. It wasn't nearly enough engine. Those thick airfoils, and large frame were too much to fly turnaround with. One thing I should have done was a plug in wing and stab; the balsa construction makes this a simple task, and would have stretched the wing a bit. I put a YS .91 and it was a happy sport plane at ~9-9.2 Lbs. I'll see if I can russle up some pics.
