RE: 1st BPA Contest Huntsville Alabama!!
Guys, I never thought I would go out to fly in 100+ heat, but to get a chance to fly with some old friends and meet some really neat new ones, would I do it again? YOU BET!!!!! Gary, Tony, Mike, Doug, Lamar, It was a great event!!!! To be able to fly the old pattern planes like we used to, with the retracts and pipes makes me want to get back into flying pattern again.
Since March, I have concentrated on scratch building the 2 Mach 1s, all the time thinking they would be ready to fly in the RCRC BPA event. I was wrong though and had to rely on my trusty old Gladiator. If I will be able to only fly my new MACH 1s the way they are equipped in BPA events. So Be It.
Gary, I really agree with you about Don Lowe. Man does he still have it or what!! I really, really hope it will be a continuing event. To finally see Jason Shulman fly and fly all the old planes like he did was something to see. It was great to see everyone having a really good time and I do mean everyone. Can't wait to see some pics come online. The BPA is here to stay. I will do all I can to help make it happen.
Thanks,
Art.................

Well, I tried to post a long post on the event, but RCU barfed when I submitted it. Suffice it to say, my Dad and I had a great time, and we thank Gary, Lamar and Tony for fulling it off. Look forward to next year!

A couple Aurora shots with the gear in motion
Gary's XLT gear in motion
Art's Gladiator, but he was too fast for me and I missed it going up
Dave's UFO but I was too early with the camera

Here is Art with his Gladiator
And Scott, Jon and Don with the Phoenix 9
Gary and ? with his XLT
Joe and Ryan with the Aurora
All of us with the Aurora (Thanks Dustin)
I'll post what I have of plane pics tomorrow. Kinda disappointed in my lack of pics though, sorry. I thought I went around and took pics of all the planes. Guess I needed more sleep Friday night...[sm=disappointed.gif]

Jason,
Unless you have a REALLY fast camera, you will miss Art's retracts going up. His are air operated!
Your slow roll with Gary's plane inches off the deck, and your first flight where literally EVERYONE stopped talking and was in the hot sun watching, made the whole event worthwhile for me. What an event!

After my heart started back it did feel refreshing for about 3-4 min.
Next year we need to tie one hand behind Don Lowe's back to make more competitive to fly against him!!!!!!!

Jason--
You have a "flare" for photography. I particularly like your close-up of the Gladiator vertical fin---never thought of doing that.
Don't forget to send them on a disc when you have a chance, and I owe you one.
I'll be posting some photos soon as well--but these are great.

Sounds like it was a fantastic event. The photos are great! I hope there is enough interest to keep the BPA and SPA going strong. Both sides will benefit. I know I have interest in BOTH types. Thanks for sharing the pics and info.

Gary and Tony,
Guys you put on one Great Event. I had a great time getting to meet some of the Best of our hobby. Thanks to Don Lowe for beating up on the younger crowd. It was an inspiration. I would like to thank all the out of towners that came to fly with us, The folks from Wing manufacturing, Jason Shuleman and crew from Florida, and the rest of you, I hope you had an enjoyable event (besides the heat) and am looking foward to seeing you again. The welcome mat is always out.
Jason thanks for posting the photos that you took, the one of Gary getting his weekly bath is great!
I'm pretty sure that the leadership of the BPA is going to have another outstanding event in 2008.
See you at the Field!!!
Doug

RE: 1st BPA Contest Huntsville Alabama!!
I suppose a big question is where should the next event be?
Who would like to see another event in the south east? (Of course I would...). Are people willing to travel to central Florida for a dedicated BPA event? How about Atlanta, GA?
And what about timing? When is the best time of the year for an event like this? Is it okay to overlap the regular AMA season as SPA does? Or do we try to "shoot the gap" for summer and winter contests?
Everyone's input would be greatly appreciated for planning purposes.
Thanks.

Although it might be a little hot, what about around late june-early july around Atlanta? (perfect place for joe to debut his....umm....Denver?....LOL)
Just trying to think of what might work. Spring and fall are crammed with other pattern stuff.

I vote up here in the Midwest as pattern is slowly fading away here.

I wouldn't say it's fading away, but it sure would make my drive shorter!!
If it's going to be down south I vote for Atlanta, Georgia over Florida. Florida would really make the drive down looonnnnngggg. (not that Georgia would make it short)

RE: 1st BPA Contest Huntsville Alabama!!
We're thinking 3-4 contests a year in this general area, tops. Anything more would tend to dilute it.
So we're thinking Huntsville, Atlanta, Texas and Florida. Spread out a bit, of course.

That's great, I assumed there would only be one contest per year. I agree that too many contests would make it much less fun and special.
