some old pictures
I managed to dig up a few old pictures from a family photo album that I thought I would share... since we all like pictures.
The first one is a Super Kaos 40 that I got as a gift from my dad. He observed how I always kept staring at this particular kit at the hobby shop, and surprised me with it one afternoon in the garage! It was my first low-wing airplane right after my Telemaster. I think I was around 15 at the time. I thought it was strange how they used machine screws to bolt the wing on. Powered by a Fox .40.
Next is a Quality Line Curare that was my first attempt at a fiberglass plane. It had Rhom-air retracts and mag wheels, it also weighed at least 11 lbs... strangely enough, it flew fairly well as long as it was going fast. We clocked it at 140 mph with a cop's radar gun. Powered by a Super Tigre .61. These pics were taken out at the Eglin Aeromodellers field in Florida, and I got a chance to meet Ron Van Putte (who I admired at the time due to his column in Model Aviation).
Next is a Calypso. I think I was around 18 at the time, and was obsessed with Hanno and his Supra Star. I tried to replicate the trim scheme. I never clocked this one, but it certainly felt just as fast, if not faster than the Curare.

stiletto,
Those are great looking planes. If you don't mind, I would like to add them to the [link=http://www.trentonrcflyers.com/pattern/pattern1.htm]classic pattern image-base[/link].
Thanks for sharing them with us.

Geez, I wish we cameras back when I started flying...
I'm sure my parents still have all the photos we took (many of them were 'before and after'). Lots of super '8' movies, too! Even some SUper '8' shot from a Senior Telemaster!
Ahh, the good, old days
Nice looking airplanes. I ran a few Fox engines back in the '70s. Once broken in and the carb set right, they were pretty strong engines.
Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the compliments. The Fox came from my control line days. It had an unbelievable response to a tuned pipe... I don't think Mr Fox had planned on that.
Casniffer, I hope you don't use any of the pictures with my "mullet" on the image base. It would be a bit embarassing.
You know, the Calypso had very little side area, and had a tiny vertical fin and rudder. I don't know why, I guess it fit with Hanno's flying style.

Awesome. I love the old pictures of the original planes back when they were new models, thanks for sharing. Do you still have any of the planes? On a side note, I heard the ape drape will be coming back into vogue....

No, the only thing I might still have is the wing from the curare, but it's simply too heavy to be of any use. The Kaos had a mid-air, the Curare did a cartwheel, and the Calypso was thrown away.
