RE: FSA Clubhouse
What a great morning out at the field. No rain, very little wind, and a beautiful sunrise. I was doing touch and go's, all morning. I did have one dead stick.[&o] It died at the most perfect time, Right over the end of the runway on an approach. It floated in and landed nicely on the runway. I tried a few loops and rolls. Not real good at those yet. I got in 7 flights total, all before 8am. (how cool) It started to rain a little and the wind picked up around 8:30 or so. I decided not to push my luck. I'm glad I called it a day when I did. I found a bad fuel leak. (again) My fuel line to the carb was cut about 1/4 of the way through.[sm=confused.gif] Now I get to dry everything out all over again. This time it got all of the foam, the battery pack, and part of the receiver. Well I have a fix for that. I will put the battery pack and the receiver in balloons.[sm=thumbs_up.gif] I hope that will keep everything dry, and not mess anything up. All in all it was a good morning out at the field. My fingers are intact and the plane is still in one piece.[8D]

Hey Jorden,
The theives must be out in full force. Last night someone went though my van. Nothing but some change was taken, don't think they took anything else. Really a pretty dumb theif, they opened the center concole and didn't take the 3 dollars sitting there but took some tokens for car wash that was sitting in the change slot. Too bad you can't sit in your house waiting for them to break into your car and bust a CAP IN THEIR @$$!!!!!!![sm=punching.gif]

I was surprised there was not more people out that early. I thought that with the pending rain everyone would be out in force at the crack of dawn. It was kind of nice to have the field to my self, but the conversation is a lot better with other people around. It gets old talking to your plane and trying to tell your thumbs that they are wrong.

RE: FSA Clubhouse
So a on Friday I was in Bethesda at one of our projects, I went to start my truck
and all h#$l broke loose inside the cab...
The auto door locks were jumping up and down and a bunch of stuff under the
dash was making clicking sounds. The engine would run but I thought something
was going to burn out if I drove it like that.
I called the dealer and talked to the service guy who immediately said "sounds like
the GEM module"! Not a lot of help so I got out my manual and found the main
fuse for the key-less remote system, #26, and removed it. That solved the
problem but killed all electric to the gages well, no tack, fuel gage etc. but
it was drivable and I drove it back to my house.
Once I was home I did a Internet search and read about fuse # 19 inside the
cab (my truck has 2 fuse boxes, one inside and one high power one outside
under the hood). OK so I locate fuse #19, yep blown... fuses don't normally
just blow but I replace it anyway and reinstall #26 under the hood. It all works
and I do a test drive to the field and back home with no problem!!!
BTW
I also looked up the GEM module, should be called the JEM module couse it runs
like $700- $800 installed.
Fast forward to today.... On my way to combat at FSA half way down my driveway
the truck interior comes alive and the door locks are jumping up and down and stuff
is clicking away under the dash. I turn around and sure enough #19 had blown again.
I just remove #26 under the hood and go to combat.
At home home this evening I did a new search for a #19 fuse and find some info
about the wires leading to the OverDrive button on my shifter lever inside the
steering column. At first I did not see it, it looked worn but no wire showing...
Hmmmm, I decide to trace the wire a little further and there it was!
I hope this is the problem!!!

DD-
If you haven't seen, there's a build thread on the AW Extra 260 Quick Build. Came in at 16.5lbs with a DA50. From what I can tell the Yak might be coming in too heavy for the 50 but with the wing area it probably isn't really a 50cc size plane- an old style ZDZ80 (because it is light and strong) might actually be the best engine for that plane.
More food for thought.

Thanks Dave,
Albert is also looking at a 50CC rig. I think he has choosen to sell his Warbird and go full into acrobatics! The guy did say the extra flew better than the Yak. Something for me to think about.
I was still in the bed at that time of the morning. I am not a morning person. I do not do early, nor will I do early unless I have a gun held to my head.

I am thinking of selling my 50CC Wild Hare Extra.
Has a DA 50 and all the good stuff.
Kurt has first dibs on it since they gave me such a good
deal on the DA 100 that is in the RadioCraft.

The kid flew the heck out of that plane for his maiden. I really like the extra, just wished it was a 300 instead of the small canopy 260. Guess tomorrow I have to start with the saving of funds. Clean up the work room, strip Patty of her gear and put her up on RCUniverse. With wingbags, I am hoping for at least $250!
Man, time for me to do a little research tomorrow.

#1 I haven't made any decisions. What I discussed with YOU were thoughts I was tossing around in my mind.
#2 I would much prefer to post my plans and/or decisions on this thread myself.

RE: FSA Clubhouse
Ohh yea.... Combat results.
Well I did pretty bad 4th out of 5. I had 4 rounds out of 8
with no ribbon cuts! I don't think I have ever had that happen.
In 2 of those rounds my plane had damage but was still flying. One
time I had an aileron controll bend real bad, it made the plane want to
pitch up.... I had to fly the rest of the round with the elevator stick
almost full down to fly level. That made it pretty hard to chase the guys
flying close to the pilot line and still be safe so I pretty much flew out
farther with no targets to chase.
The kid (sorry didn't get his name) did really well 3rd. Kirk was first,
and Chris was second, Viat (spelling) was 5th.
Also my rudder never worked the entire day!
Damage report:
I lost one wing to a broken fiberglass spar, besides the wing I flew the
same plane all 8 rounds with no dirt naps, just a soft landing in the last
round. In the last round I got 3 ribbons then a mid air with Kirk. In the
mid air and all the ribbons got wrapped up in the wings and acted like a
big balloon. The engine could not fly the plane with all that drag. Landed
in the high grass next to the runway while Kirk's plane spun in and
nested in a tree.

RE: FSA Clubhouse
I was at the field on Saturday and Sunday during the day and I was surprised to find so few pilots. there. Well, I just found out on another forum that PGRC had their giant scale and warbird fly-in over the weekend which would probably explain why.
I don't remember seeing any PGRC fliers up at the field, although maybe I just missed it. It seems like something FSA as a club should promote. If we want them to promote our fly-in, why shouldn't we promote theirs?

Gary and other folks announced it at several of our monthly meetings. However it would have been nice to have some flyers posted. It was advertised on their web site, and probably in the AMA mag, but I can't say for sure. If they provided flyers, I'm sure we would have posted them, if we didn't shame on us. I didn't see any posted at Hobby City or Hobby Works either. It may have simply been that PGRC ran out of flyers, or didn't provide us any. I don't know. I agree whole-heartedly that reciprication is the rule. They advertise for us, and we advertise for them. This is of course predicated on the fact that we each provide the materials with which to advertise.

I can only speak to how we promote our Airplanes of the world. We send flyers to all of the clubs up to Delaware and down to Virginia. We also hand deliver them to the local hobby shops. I think that Jorden has a good point. I don't remember seeing any flyers at any of the local hobby shops.
I believe that the local clubs should try and do more things together as the more resources that are thrown at a problem, in most cases the better the outcome.

Well I found a large crack in the bottom of my fuse.[&o] So it looks like there will be a patch job in my future. Do any of you think it is a bad idea putting my battery and receiver in balloons.[sm=idea.gif] My fuel lines keep springing leeks.[X(] I am hopeing it will help to keep things dry. I want to wrap them in foam and then put them each in a balloon. I am concerned about the battery getting warm. If I find a balloon large enough I will put the whole tank in one.[>:] This is getting old.

When I raced 1/8 scale gas cars I would run the Rx in a balloon.
Next had a problem with the small batteries getting a little fuel
on them.
