Diy heat iron sock!
Everyone has gone through it.The moment that you get glue or something else on your heat iron in the middle of covering your plane and you are then stuck! Your in the middle of the project, and don't feel like stopping to go to the hobby shop!this is an easy, Quick way to make your own.
start with getting a normal sock for your feet. I am just using a towel for this example. Use some pushrod, and make holes in it to weave string throughout it. The more holes you make, the better and cleaner it will come out.
After you weave it in and out as many times as you can, you simply put it under your heat iron, pull the strings and tie it around the iron just the same you would do if you were to buy one. I have tested it with many materials, including this towel but a normal sock for your foot seems to work the best and the most similar to the one that you would buy!
good luck and let me know what you think!

Hmm.... Never noticed that effect. As long as i made the thread tight enough, and cover with light pressure, I never had that problem. Maybe a possible cause is the brand sock. So sorry the results were not as positive as mine.

I prefer material from something like a cotton pillow cover. I just cut a large enough piece and just sew it around the iron. It takes some time, but you just keep sewing and pulling and eventually you have a nice tight iron sock around your iron.

Back in day before purpose built irons, we used full size clothes irons with a men's handerchief with a knot in one corner pulled over the iron and went for it! worked a treat!!
