Default Timing of motors

Is there somebody who can explain the influence of the timing of the controller in relation to the behaviour of the motor.

The reason why I ask is that I received from Hacker to set the controller to 30degrees of timimg to run a Plettenberg 30-10.

I most post, I see 18 degrees, and it the spreadsheet of an other post, I see 5 and 10 degrees.

I read somewhere that there is also a relation with the number of poles the motor has.

In the 'brushed days' you could retime to get higher RPM with higher current.

Thanks
Winfried
