RE: HABU 32?
Has everyone noticed how well the Habu balances? Simply by moving the 45 pound battery back and forth (slight exaggeration), balance was easily obtained in the center of their limits.

A small (1/8" or so) amount of the plastic exhaust tube is protruding from the back of my Habu - HH tells me the tube isn't seated against the fan far enough - anyone else have this trouble?

Yep. Mine seems to be installed correctly and I have the same thing. There is a couple/few people that also have this on the other thread. I left mine that way for 5 flights now. I plan to trim it before this weekends flying. I doubt this will effect performance.

Did you use a Dremel, knife, scissors, chain saw or what? My thinking is a Dremel (I think). I hate to remove it since it's already attached to the DF unit.

I use a 500 mah 2S lipo and the 10amp castle creations regulator, I believe this much lighter than a 6v nimh pack, but 1000mah nimh pack should work fine, it all depends on your preference. Plug the 6v pack into your Rx(any port except the throttle port), plug your ESC into the throttle port on your Rx. Make sure you disconnect the red wire coming from the ESC, or make sure you turn off the switch on your ESC.

RE: HABU 32?
Made it out tot he field this evening for some taxi tests - however, a problem showed up. I use an FMA 10S charger - it appears as though I only charged 4 of the 6 cells. I must have either a connector-connection problem or a lack of understanding how to connect a 6 cell Lipo. Anyone else using a 10S? I love the charger - I've used it for 2-3 seasons but always on 3 S Lipos, never this 45 pound 45C 6S brick. Any suggestions are appreciated. I am using the correct adapter, btw. Only charged it through the 4 amp supply - waiting for a couple EC5's to go 10 amps. TIA

RE: HABU 32?
I put a seperate 820 mah 2s lipo and align BEC and no more issues.
Much better than my first three flights where i had instances of rx issues.
Nice to have that behind me.

Good pod cast regarding the Habu 32 - it's at around the 43 minute mark. http://www.rcradionetwork.com/shows/show_04052011.php

Spoke to FMA this morning and we determined that it must be the way i have the node connector attached to the 10S. I will redo everything later today.

Hope this makes sense

RE: HABU 32?
Actually, it depends on the battery type too. With the battery I bought from Horizon (yes - I paid too much for it) - it plugs into the 10S adapter board in the proper slot. However, the connector from this board fits into channels 1 and 2 of the charger. Since each channel can only handle up to a 5S battery, both channels must always be used no matter whether you're doing a high current charge through the banana jacks or a 4 amp charge through the balancing wires. That's according to Howard at FMA, Frederick, MD. It does work that way too - tried it. Btw, one of the cells was defective in my battery from HH and they are replacing it - although I was not allowed to return it, I disabled it by cutting the 2 red wires close to the battery. I may disassemble it and make one good 3s 5amp battery out of what's left.

RE: HABU 32?
Hey guys, is it possible to use the Eflite ESC and just use a seperate BEC?? Or dou have to have an alternate battery?? I am thinking I will not trust the stock BEC since the recent reviews. My Habu "should" be coming in some time next week and I will start putting it together then..

RE: HABU 32?
That can be done, the advantage of using a smaller 2S lipo is that the lower the input voltage the more efficient the regulator will work. For example, with an input voltage < 12v the Small Castle regulator can deliver 10amps, above 12v input and the output current is significantly reduced.

RE: HABU 32?
I just followed your advice and went with the 10 amp Castle regulator along with a 500 mah lipo. Still haven't flown - must be monsoon season here in Penna!

RE: HABU 32?
There are definitely other options, but the little Castle regulator and a small 2S lipo works well and is fairly inexpensive and lightweight. I have five flights on mine so far with no issues. Good luck with the WX there in PA, we're dealing with same thing here in Washington State.

RE: HABU 32?
thanks for the quick reply... SO, just so I'm clear.. by regulator do you mean the Castle 10amp BEC?? Also, would there be any benefit to just going with tha Castle Ice 100 or Ice lite for example??? At that point would you still recommend an external BEC?? Thanks again for your reply.

RE: HABU 32?
Hi,
By regulator we do mean BEC. Also, no matter how expensive the ESC, use an external reg/BEC in dangerous or expensive models. In the last 5 year of flying I have seen in person the most expensive of ESC's burn up. Quite a few! If the esc frys you will loose your flight controls along with it. If your esc frys and you're running an external bec you at least have a shot at a dead stick landing and saving the model. Also note, I have not seen an external bec burn up. Just use common sense. A 10amp bec will handle the flight controls on the habu32 with plenty of over head. A 5 amp is also good but with less overhead to handle a servo or set up malfunction such as over travleing the flaps.

RE: HABU 32?
Okay, so I'm on the right track as far as that goes. Then the addtional batt will power only the bec right??? Sounds good. Thanks again for the input. That is how I have my Evader set up. Actually, I am powering the BEC from the same batt as the motor, but the concept is the same.
