The E-Flite retract struts have 4 coils instead of the 3 coils on the fixed struts. Making them "softer".
You might alsoconsider Tams E-Flite retract upgrade struts. (trailing links)

I bought these struts, they are very nicely built and a lot more robust than the wire struts. I have not installed them yet so I can't provide any feedback on how well they actually work yet but they look like they will work well. Be prepared for sticker shock though, at $150 they are pricey.

it lasted about 2 in a half miniutes before it started smoking well worth it.
Doppler it stock at 118mph on 6s 151mph on 8s these were in pretty steep dives enjoy.

Any one have any info on the hold up with getting the Habu 32? Ordered my over a month ago and was told by Horrizon that they would have them by the middle of May. I called Horrizon again today and now I'm being told August. Is it possible That many people have ordered this model that they can't keep up with the orders?[]

youll be bored pretty quick, actually to be honest i was really disappointed in the stock performance, i mean yea it was doing about 120 stock but it seemed really porky.
8s is what it should run like stock, then i would be wanting to run 10s

Another maiden flight here today.. about a 6mph headwind, and just a few clouds in the sky. I gotta say I thought it was going to be faster than it actually was. Stock setup w/ sep lipo for reciever power. I went with the recommended throws on everything. The only part I deviated was in the expo. I set everything to 25%. That is typically what works for me on most planes. The only trim needed was 3 clicks up elevator, no aileron no rudder. I was expecting it to be like my Evader but quicker. At any rate, I don't have retracts yet so I know that is some drag right there. Hopefully it will improve. Still nice plane though

I have accumulated over 20 flights on the Habu 32 and have noticed something that I need to bring up to the other Habu owners. First off, I fly and land off of a grass field that needs to be rolled (supposed to be done soon), but, it is fairly rough at this time. That being said, I did install a set of Tam's struts which has really helped T/O distance and seems to absorb a lot of the shock that the original struts didn't. The attachment method of securing the wings seems to be adequate, but, here's which I have noticed. Apparently, the shock of landing causes some pulling of the carbon spar against the allen bolts that secure the CF spar inside the fuselage. The space between fuselage and the wing becomes noticeably larger after 3-4 landings and I have to re-set the wing by loosening the bolts, pushing the wing back in , and re-tightening the bolts. This will become worse - and, I am tempted to drill either a set of holes or, at the least, deep depressions in the CF spar where the bolts hit during tightening. This seems to be standard procedure with some models (BVM in particular) and am wondering what the rest might think since I doubt if the problem is going to be unique with me. I will also check with HH when I get a chance. Thanks!

We took a (75 mile) drive out to spend the day at the Prado field in Chino today
Bob Vincent maidened the 8s, 4000mah, MEGA Habu, and with one click of aileron trim she was dialed in. The first flight was limited to 3:30 min.
We put 2000mA back in and conservatively reset the time for 4 min. Bob took her up for flight #2, and some speed runs. I'll get the videos up tomorrow, but we had the Prospeed radar gun. Bob was very pleased with the way the jet handled, having never flown the Habu 32 prior.

Here's what we got from the gun. (same flight, #2)

Upwind........142 mph
downwind....160 mph
AVERAGE SPEED........150.5 MPH

I believe we have the fastest(averaged speed) EDF powered Habu 32 to date.

Flight #3 was to be some "airshow" fun with both Habus flying. Shortly into the flight, the 8s Habu, lost the canopy and was landed, as Cory continued to fly the 6s version. We didn't actually get to do any doppler passes on the 6s Habu. but we can get some speeds from the video.
We got 4 flights in with 8s Habu. The fastest pass on flight #4 was 163 MPH.

Habu 32 Crash!! Accelerated Tip Stall Warning!!

I had a complete loss of my Habu on flight six, and wanted to share with others so they don't also crash. I was at ½ throttle and made a GENTLE turn onto final approach for a fly by at about 75 ft. The plane looked like it was shot out of the sky, and plummeted into the dirt so fast I had no time to react.

This has also happened to other pilots. The Habu 32 will go into a spin due to accelerated tip stall. The stall will occur with aileron input at the same time as elevator input. This is only during a “clean� configuration, and will not occur with flaps deployed.

The problem is the wing is not designed with any twist, and therefore sensitive to tip stall. The wing should have about 3 deg of twist, but it doesn’t. I think Horizon should redo the wings, and offer a set with the appropriate twist. I have verified on the Realflight sim (which is a very good match) that about 3 deg is the right number to soften or eliminate tip stall. I have also been able to consistently re-create the condition in the sim that causes the unrecoverable tip stall/spin. It takes at least 100ft to recover the airplane. If it happen below this altitude, you will kiss the dirt; hard.

Warning: This stall/spin happens abruptly and without warning. It can occur during a normal flight conditions that will surprise you!

Fix: To simulate the wing twist, put 1/16� up deflection on each aileron, and 1/16� down deflection on each flap. It may save your airplane, and does not sacrifice any performance. Also, the expo in the manual is 25% on high rate. I moved my expo up to 55% which may also help delay or avoid the tip stall due to an abrupt aileron deflection during pitch up.

I hope this saves your plane.

Very sorry to hear of your crash and, the probable reason your Habu went in. Looks to me like we'd better keep the speed up, especially in a turn. So far, the only hint of a tip stall was during landing when I tried to milk the flare a bit high - that's a no-no. Is the Habu repairable?

I have been following your threads on Habu 32 with great interest, I am formally from Lancaster Pa. and live in florida now . One of the clubs I am in now is about to put a 800 ft. blacktop runway in. I have been in the hobby 25 years and this would be my first jet. ( I hope I can keep up with the speed)

Any thoughts or should I just jump right in

800 ft would be a piece of cake, I'm flying mine from a 300 paved strip and it's working but I have to touchdown in the first 20 ft, which requires precision landings. For me precision landing means 1-2 go arounds until I get it just right.

Hi Splinter. I was basically in the same boat. Have flown RC since the late 70's and, although I've flown a couple of pushers, never a ducted fan, especially an EDF. If you can handle a fast 40 size aircraft, have no fear. Your first landing will probably be too fast, but you'll learn how much it'll slow down soon after that. Building- wise, it is a fun project. I can't believe some are building it in a day. It took me all of 40 hours plus or minus a couple. Go with the servos they recommend, their fan and motor. However, I would use a different speed control and a separate lipo 500 mah receiver battery with a 10 amp regulator. I can give you specific recommendations if you like. I also added a better set of landing gear struts since what they use seemed to have a rough time on our grass field. Good luck and jump right in, I know I don't regret buying and building it for my first EDF ( almost 66 hrs young here).

[8D] I just turned 62 so I know how you feel. The 800 feet (50 feet wide) of course is being put in for the turbine guys, They are paying for it approx 6 guys with $10,000 + planes

I wanted to put the retracts in that Horizon sells ??? Not a good idea ??? Better struts ????

I also thought using 2 5000 mah 3 cells( in series) made more sense than 6S ???

I was going to use a Phoenix 80 NON- BEC controller and a small battery pack for the servos ???

The tclaridge story has me a little apprehensive Thoughts ???[:-]
