Default craftsman 55

I have a crafsman 55cc and (I got used) at some point in its life some one welded the nut to the crank. When I ground down the weld and tried to crank the nut off it snaped at the base of the threads. If I were to take the jug and spin it 180 to drive the prop off the clutch side of the motor but still get the proper rotation will it run right. It's going to be EI so no mag needed and a friend ownes a machine shop so drive hub is no problem just need to know if spinning it 180 will work. Thanks all in advance.

All you have to do is set up the ignition pick up sensor for 28 degrees before top dead center for the direction you want it to run

Do you even have to turn the jug around? Unless you want to have the carb and exhaust on the same side they were on? Will a piston ported or reed valve engine run either way as long as the ignition pick up sensor is set properly for that desired direction you want? How about glow conversion of a piston ported or reed valve gas engine, will it run either way like the old Cox reed valve engines?

Thanks,

Richard

Some piston ported engines have channels in the block that are different on one side than the other.

often the intake ports are set up schnurle style to force the intake charge away from the exhaust and the cylinder passages will not match the crankcase when turned around.

Who makes (made) the engine for Sears? Sears, like many others, does not make much of anything.

Hey, Maybe Sanye made it for Sears?

Regards,

Richard

I am running my gas/glow conversion backward. It runs great. I had this conversation with a friend the other day about nitros running poorly backwards. The crank journal determine timing on the nitro motors intake, so they are designed to run in a specific rotation. They will run backward, but not good like a gasser. I found this info on mecoa's site, but was not sure why until I read that.
