RE: Craftsman 55cc
Nice looking prop hub. What are the 6 (?) holes for on the rear surface (toward the engine) of the hub?
Thanks, Bruce |

flipflop: Nice work! What knurling tool did you use on face of adapter. Thanks Capt,n

The six holes are drilled with the hub mounted to my rotary table. They are used to "index" the hub while I'm machining the slots in the hub.

RE: Craftsman 55cc
Another way to make 4 grooves...Drill a prop bolt hole exactly in the middle of a 2" square block. Put the prop hub on the engine...Bolt the square block on the end of the hub...Clamp the hub in your mill vise, use a 1/2" ball end mill to make grooves in the hub...

RE: Craftsman 55cc
Even another way or two is to use hex or square collet blocks. leave just enough material on one end or the other of the hub, insert it in the collet block and clamp it in the vise. use a machinists jack under the hub for support. Mill a slot and turn or index the block. Have also done the same thing with my Yuasa spin indexer.

Looks like you borrowed the idea from BME.

Keith your design for your hubs and timing rings are pretty slick in my opinion.

RE: Craftsman 55cc
I stopped at Sears today and they had a 55cc saw on clearance. It was used, but probably minimally. I might be interested in doing a conversion, but don't know much about it. Does anyone have any input?
It sounds like I need a carb adapter? What is that for? Where can I get a prop hub? I don't have a lathe or machine tools. I would like to go with an electronic ignition. Is the ss the way to go? What others are there? WHat about a muffler? WHat else? |
RE: Craftsman 55cc
Flipflop, is this the saw your engine came from?
http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...seBVCookie=Yes I'd like to make this my first conversion. I don't have a lathe, so if anyone has links to the machined parts, I'd love to see 'em! |
RE: Craftsman 55cc
That's it.

http://ak-models.com/mm5/merchant.mv...Model_GasPower Now that I have the motor, I am going to be sick without one of these planes. I might just have to sell off my fleet and get this going. |

billzair: Nice looking 55cc engine. Did you run it with mag ignition first. Is it as smooth with electronic ignition. It looks lite....what does it weigh ready to run? Thanks Capt,n

Looks like Sears has discountinued these saws. Anyone have another source for the 55cc engine that comes in it, or similar (besides ebay)?

RE: Craftsman 55cc
Stopped by Sears today. I was told these engines were recalled due to emission issues. Bummer. I was gonna see if Scott @ Brillelli would convert one for me.[:o]

RE: Craftsman 55cc
mcculloah sells a 50cc saw for the same price at menards.
