RE: Honeybee King v2 tuner shop
Hoping I dont regert the 3900 decision wanted something with enough power to do some 3d, rolls, inverted and such but my flying is not to that level yet so it will be some time and if I feel it is needed may have to upgrade when i get to that point. the stock brushed motor has alot more power then I ever expected when I got the hbk2 how much difference should I expect from the 3900? probably should have got the 3800 but didnt like the idea of cutting on the frame just yet.

RE: Honeybee King v2 tuner shop
The 3900 with a 10 tooth gear is no slouch. It has a lot more power than the stock setup. I am not a 3D flyer. I may never get there, but I like take off, hover a bit, then punch the throttle while attempting to keep the tail striaght and watch the HBK rocket skyward. ( not for long though, because it climbs out to my visual limits pretty fast) For extra thrill, I do the same thing and hold full rudder a second or two... That makes it climb and pirouette fast... If I push the nose over and apply liberal amounts of throttle, it is amazing at how fast it goes into FF flight.. My tree line that is 75 or so feet away comes running at the heli at an amazing rate. (darn those moving trees!)lol.... I do this other "thing" where I punch it in FF flight then pull back full cyclic ( not for long).. The heli climbs to near vertical at which point I drastically reduce the throttle allowing it to return to about 40 degrees nose up at which time I re-apply some of the throttle and pull back on the cyclic to get the HBK to come in reverse back to me. When it is around 8 feet out, I quickly reverse to forward cyclic apply more power in a short burst and attempt to get the HBK to stop in a stable hover asap.. You can really hear the blades sing out when you move collective that much. I am a long time fixed wing pilot, but have only been flying helis for a year now. ( HBK's since Jan 07) I know what I do is not fancy, but I do make the heli work...Thus far, the Esky 3900 with a 10 tooth pinion works great for me.. Of course, one of the keys is to adjust the pitch to where you have good headspeed. If you bog any motor down, it will overheat and perform like a pig. Most motors are most efficient in their upper rpm ranges.. Properly setup, I don't think you will regret the purchase.

RE: Honeybee King v2 tuner shop
got vid? i would love to see that :>
I'm not at that piloting level yet. Work'n on it |
RE: Honeybee King v2 tuner shop
Great information tbaus exactly what I was wandering and sounds like the level I hope to be flying soon. I think it will work great for what I want. Thanks again sounds like you have come a long way already as a heli pilot, Im coming from flying gliders but that was about 10 years aggo.

RE: Honeybee King v2 tuner shop
Video: I wish I did.. I don't own a video camera( my antique super8 camera is dead) & I don't have anyone to film it.. I did watch a nice Llama video ( posted on this site) where the pilot flies all through his house and in and out the door to outside. The only way I can figure the guy got the video angles he got was he was flying and somehow operating the camera at the same time. I would like to know how he did that.. I would like to see how he carried the camera. ( In his hat?) I am looking at small video cameras to put into the heli so I can get a "heli's eye view". That is something I want to try in the not too distant future.

RE: Honeybee King v2 tuner shop
Hello everyone,
I ordered the Esky Brushless Combo Set for my HBK2: 3100RPM Brushless Motor + 25A with the 9T,10T and 11T Align pinions. I have no desire to do any of that 3D type of flying, just want a sweet, straight, normal flying, cool running bird. My question is: Will I be OK running the stock 11.1V 1000mAh Li-Poly with that setup? Steve |
RE: Honeybee King v2 tuner shop
You will be fine. I think you'll want to run the 9t pinion. Other guys are running that same setup and doing fine. If you only have one battery, you will want to have at least one more. My advice is to stay light, not go too heavy, but increase the C value to at least 12 ( there are lots of reasonably priced 12c-15c 3cell lipos out there) and mah rating to 1200-1300.. Check out the dimensions of the stock battery. It's width is a max width that will fit in the battery box. My stock batteries ( I have 4 Esky 1000mah 10c lipos) tend to get pretty hot. My Dynam 1250mah 12c usually only gets really warm if I run it to near the cutoff voltage. I bought one 1350 mah battery on ebay that won't fit in the battery tray. ( I am thinking of copying a mod on this site where one flyer built a ramp of aluminum and screwed it to the front of the frame). I have a couple more ( different batteries) coming this way. I hope to try them soon.. Bottom line: You will be fine.. Start exploring battery options now...

This is exactly what I'm flying...very stable.:D:D:D |
RE: Honeybee King v2 tuner shop
Thanks for your reply. I have two of the stock Li-Po batteries. Can the stock ESKY charger charge those other batteries you mentioned or will i be forced to buy a new charger?

I got my DX7 on ebay for $179 and the AR6100 for $36. It took awile to win a bid. Just don't get into any bidding wars. Just enter your max bid and wait. Many radios on ebay and I am sure you will get one.

Here are the blades I was looking at tell me what you think.
http://cgi.ebay.com/288mm-Carbon-Fib...QQcmdZViewItem But then again thinking you get what you pay for and may be money better spent on a set a trust. |
RE: Honeybee King v2 tuner shop
For one thing, the ad says "carbon fiber pattern". I believe this to be some sort of substrate ( foam, wood, etc.) with a carbon fiber looking plastic wrap. I don't think these are actual carbon fiber blades.

I've seen plastic blades that are foam filled with 2 CF rods in them, ehhhhhhhh...not very impressive either. |
