Default How to calculate speed

How do you calculate speed with video editing software I have VEGAS 4.0 I think its capable but dont know how to do it.

I explained what I did in the thread "Diamond Dust with airspeed logging***now with data!! ". You can advance the video one frame at a time to get a good time over your reference point. Not perfect put probably not too far off. My post was towards the middle of the thread.
