I bought a 3 speed tranny kit 9 or 10 years ago, all metal gears andno reverse, it'sALWAYS worked great and I've never had a single problem out of it, I've always ran it behind a big block too, I looked around and don't see any available, maybe some of you magazine collectors could find in in an old copy of RCCA, if I'm remembering correctly it's from Robinson, and cost like $100 bucks back then.......and I'm not sure of the ratio but even with a full steel cage, aluminum arms, bulkheads, braces, skidplates, aluminum wheels, extended aluminum chassis, and numerous other hop ups,it weighs 12.5#'s and is much faster than a stock T Maxx...............both in quickness and top speed......ran a stock T maxx awhile back, spotted him 20' and within 50' I had ran right over him, trashed his truck and he wasn't happy... but he wanted to race........If I could find another kit just like I have , I'd buy it for my other maxx.......

I’m very skeptical that you purchased a 3 speed for the TMaxx 9-10 years ago.
Please post pics of the internals. I am very familiar with the TMaxx tranny and RAD is the only 3 speed conversion I have ever heard of for it.
If you do have something other than the RAD 3 speed conversion I would be willing to offer a lot of cash to take it off your hands.

Vantage makes the chasis, this truck I'll be putting up for sale soon on here (after I run it at the drag track so I get real numbers how fast this truck is ) . I beat the 2.5 4-tech in street style drag race and very close to the 3.3 4-tech .

Serious Snook Man!, the next time I have the tranny out ,I'll be sure and take it apart and send you some pics.....but I'm almost positive that it's from Robinson....nothing is on the outside though except for the robinson metal geared slipper with the red pegs.......I did buy extras of those as I thought they wouldn't last.... but I haven't had to replace them yet........and as i built this for my son, who is now deceased, I wouldn't sell any part of it for anything.......... it will stay as is, and as I hardly get it out ,and I'm extremely careful with it when i do, I figure it'll be around for a long, long time....

I just went to the radrc site and looked just to make sure......there is no possibleway the kit could be theirs, as it states the kit was added to their catalog May 17,2004, the truck had been finished for 2 years by then and my son was already in Iraq, sent there in April 2004.... and his stuff, along with the Maxx, and the Savage he built forhimselfwas placed in storage at Ft. Hood,he never saw them again as they were sent back to us with his things after he was killed.......

OK...Now I am confused.............just did another search and it seems that there were rad 3 peed conversions out in 2002...which is about the right time frame, maybe I was the first one on the block with a 3 speed,lol,lol............but it states it's a 2 speed spur....... now is that the outside or inside spur?....... if it's outside, it's not it, .....if it's inside though it may very well be, but I don't remember the "braces" or the things that look like braces.........but the pics on the site are very small.......

Steve, Sorry to hear about your son, may he RIP.

The RAD 3 speed uses an external double spur gear and 2 gear clutch bell without a slipper clutch to accomplish the 3rd gear. The internal tranny gears stay the same.

Next time you tear the tranny open please post some pics as you may have the only one known to exist for a Tmaxx during that time frame.

Chiming in. Its a Sledgehammer. Has original motor and XL-1 ESC. Still have the original tires, but the Firestone ones are off an old RC Bigfoot truck from way back when.

This is the available (so called) 3 speed kit for the TMaxx black transmission. I do not recommend it as it fails rather easily and does not increase top speed very much when it does work.

http://<font face=''Times New Roman'...s_id=76</font>

You can modify the stock black transmission to have a true 3rd gear with a large increase in top end speed (with a larger displacement high torque engine) but it requires quite a bit of modification and addition of internal gears, alterations to the shafts and the transmission housing. Not an easy mod by any means.

I can post a link if you’re interested.

yes link please...

i am not skeptical.... i purchased my original tmaxx on day 1 release.. 1999??? so 12 years ago.. and i remember a 3speed.. i couldnt afford it... so back then it was out.... not in 1999 but i got rid of my truck in 2004ish... even at that it is 7 years.. but i know it was out in 2000-2002......

I think you may have misunderstood my reply.

I know there is a 3 speed conversion for the Tmaxx. It is an external double spur gear and clutch bell that eliminates the slipper clutch made by RAD. (the link I posted)

What I’m talking about in my reply would be an all internal 3 speed.
