Default 18MZ battery charging

The charger that came with my 18MZ appears to be a 12 volt power supply with a 2.5 amp output. I assume that the charging circuit resides in the Tx or battery itself. If in the unlikely event I should need to charge the Tx battery at the field can I just apply 12 volts to the charge jack utilizing the correct plug on the back of the Tx and therefore charge the battery? Thank you.

I am thinking of doing this for the just in case situations. The outside of the coaxial plug is 5mm and measures 12 volts DC. I found the plug here but have not tried it. [link]http://www.thefind.com/search?query=dc+coax+plug+center+pin[/link]

I plan to connect this to a standard cigarette lighter plug with a 2 amp fuse. I would only charge the transmitter with the engine off to make sure there isn't any ripple going to the transmitter.

We'll have to check with Futaba to see if that's OK.

OK, we found out: Futaba says that the transmitter can accept up to 20V DC as input. The actual charging circuitry is inside the transmitter. You can use a 12V DC power source, such as a power supply connected to an AC outlet, or an automobile battery.
