Glen on your carburator If you would post your request in the glow engine forum here at RCU I am sure you will get some info and maybe even some leads.

On your list of airplanes that I think are mostly ARFs, agine you are more likely to get the info you need in the ARF forum. I may have flown some of them but I have trouble remembering all the fanciful names. I do know of the AMA 422 Quarter 40 pylon racing Proud Bird but beleve me you do not want to go there and its about as far from a beginners forum subject as one could get.

Keep on bashing Dude

John, Thanksfor the leads. As for the Proud Bird, I think the Jett 40 would do just fine at 20,000+ rpms. My "Fire Ball" is flying about 100-120 MPH now at 16,000+ rpms. I just have to get something lined up, so I can stay ahead of the others. Next in line is this Ultimate with the Rossi. Thanks, Glen

Well now then I see we are talking about the same airplane in that case best not screw around and make sure you install Mr. Dubs latest Q40 Jett with no throttle just a pinch off.

I never flew 422 only 424 and 428 along with SWRA and the later RCPro warbirds. As a matter of fact preparing an airplane for a young whippersnapper now for an RCPro event coming up soon.

John, I have started on a prototype wing. If it works out. I for see a scratch built plane in the near future. Here are pictures of the start of the wing. It is a blue dense foam, 2" thick I found in the ditch along Hwy 49.

John, How cool! I love it!!! Well it's settled, Ditch Witch it is! LoL! Now what power-plant to use? I am thinking the Rossi (side exhaust) 60 or the 61 Max. I think I will cut the wing in half and run a Aluminum tube through the fuselage.

any pix's of your build yet?

Thanks Glen

John,
Well worked on the wing today. It now has Blood, sweat and tears in it. I was shaping it out with a side grinder. It wanted to go one way and I went the other with my right thumb. LoL! After the shock I shut it off. Said a few choice choice words. Looked at it. I thought "It's not that bad, Heck! there is some white foam in it." I'll just pick it out. Then it hit me, "hey, dummy you are working on a BLUE foam wing!" I grabbed a rag, wrapped it up and headed to the pit box for the CA. I opened the tube top with teeth, unwrapped the thumb, went to apply, EMPTY! Shoot, Shoot, SHOOT! Now air has hit the thumb and blood is running everywhere, but I still see the white-ish foam looking stuff. Wrapped it back up, Went to the work bench. Wow there is 2 tubes of CA. Yes, we got this. NOPE both EMPTY! I went to the last place that I knew where there was some. YES, YES!! 1 unopened tube! I opened it up, unwrapped the thumb and there is the white-ish foam looking stuff. I just get it out in between dobbing and sopping up blood. Well it was not foam, or finger nail. it was bone. So I just pushed the hamburger meat together and glued. Well after a few more choice words and blowing on it. It stopped bleeding (except the weep hole I left). Looked at the wing and said, "You win! I am done for the day." I shut down the shop and went in.

I did get pictures, but they are still in the shop. So no pictures tonight. Maybe post Monday. Glen

Okay Dough-kay!
I just received my perry carb. for the Rossi .61 that will be going on the ultimate 40 bi-plane, which I pulled down out of the rafters. I put the Rossi on the stand with a 11x8 ACP. It turned 13K. I have a pipe on it, but I have not started cutting the pipe yet, I want try a 12x6, 11x6, 11x4 to see what I will get for a base line. With the 11x8, it passes the pinch test, top and bottom.

As for this 3D swift Racer. I bought it Thursday 29 March but It still has not been shipped. Glen

I think you will find an 11/7 to be a great combo with that engine on a full wave.

John,
I Bet you are right, heck! I know you are right, but still want to see. I will use the 11x8 and start cutting until i get fall off, Then switch to the 11x7. BTW I just received information on my Swift, It is route. About half way.

I am going to add just a little wood to the inside, where the mounting plate (wood) for the landing gear.

I had to stop working on the blue foam wing along with the bipe. Moma wanted the garden done. well it's done. Now I can get started on the important stuff again! LoL

I what is the best way to hold the header to the engine? twisted wire?

Thanks, Glen

My question is; Is there any where else that needs to be strengthened on the plane? I am also open to any other tips, tricks and hints on this plane.

Nope don,t start fixing problems that don,t exist hint yes make absolutely sure that you have the CG sufficiently forward. On mine I even built a battery box forward of the firewall so the battery is nested right up aginst the bottom of the engine.

I used an OS 55AX with 11x8 no pipe on mine great flyer.

Yes, note the twisted safety wire is slid back in the first photo and of course a spring around the front of the cylinder is hooked in the loops.

John,
I will get back in touch with you on the CG when I get to that point. I am just going to strengthen the landing gear attachment floor. Both of the Rossi's 60 & 61 did not come with a spring, but that is no problem. I didn't get to work on anything again today, maybe tomorrow.

Okay, have only to put the control rods from the bottom wing to the top wing on both sides. 16K w/11-6 Master on ground and still really rich. Will post pictures tomorrow.

Okay, Gents!
Still need to put the rods on, but it's going to rain today, so I took pictures while the sun was out.
Thanks, Glen

Well, I finished up today with everything. THE CG is about 3 1/8 - 3 1/4 inches from the LE on the top wing. According to the distructions, that's where it should be. We will see. I am thinking that I should take the 11x6 off and put an 11x4 on for first flight.

What do ya'll think?

Thanks, Glen

Looks good Glen, Do not go any further aft than 31/8 and that will work well. As far a the props go its all about getting on the pipe and with a conventional full wave like that its best to decide which prop you want first and then start the tuning process of shortening the header.

For your first runs try both but I would go for the higher pitch first so that you could work into getting on the pipe by shortening and be rewarded with a higher pitch after you get there.

I just flew the maiden flight on a World Models yellow Ultimate. The CG is at 3 1/4". It is very well behaved at this CG. It does drop the nose quite a bit in a roll but that is fine with me. It has an LA 40 with 11 x 5 and dry weight is 4# 9 oz. The engine power is marginal for a thick grass runway but fine in the air. My goal with this plane was light weight. I am looking at getting the Precision Aerobatics AMR which is about half the weight of this one.

Attached are pics of my yellow TWM with an LA 40 and an older Cox / Pica with an OS FL 70. The Cox/Pica is wider at 41.5 inch and is well made. These are both set up for thick grass, which means larger wheels and a very sturdy landing gear, particularly as it attaches to the airframe. I use a lipo and voltage regulator on the yellow plane. I did it to keep the weight down but it is sure great to have power always ready without having to top off a nicad. The lipo balance connector sticks out the side of the plane. I use a charger that only requires the balance connector. The yellow plane required a 3 oz brass prop nut because the LA40 is so light; dry weight is 4# 10 oz. The Cox is 5# 10 oz and that is after changing to lighter servos. This plane has been out of production which is why , when a "walk away" crash happened at the field , I gladly took it in and rebuilt the front half of the fuse, and a fair amount of wing repair.
