RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
My air robart Tail retract will bounce closed and pop back out when taxing if i don`t keep the pressure between 70 to 90+ lbs. It will drag on the rudder then pop out and cause the plane to nose foward. Back and forth. Is this normal?

far from normal. this is a common problem with air operated retract systems. go with either servo operated tail wheel or full electrics and/or converted to electric gear. check out ''down and locked .com'' electric conversions of robart, sierra, etc. they won't collapse like air systems will. just my 2 cents worth!!!!!

Oriole,
Bend a small bracket and secure it behind one of the front motor mount bolts.
Valve Floater,
It sounds like your tail gear may not be adjusted properly, or maybe bent? The tail gear should go over-center when in the down position, preventing it from collapsing even if the pressure in the system is very low.

Check the threads on the cylinder ram. It can turn in the clevis and won't allow it the knukle over.(to short) Reset it, then locktite it. I had the same problem.

Aghost -
Do you have a picture of the Sierra Gear with the arms and doors?
I am curious as to how your setup looks...
Thanks-

Both will require you to hack up the cowling for the carb. I would go with the G62. A 23x8 or 22x10 would give you good "scale " performance. The 45 is abit unimpressive. Besided they are basicly the same size. However you will find more accessories for the 62.
Just be sure to open up the bottom of the cowl at the firewall. I've never had a cooling issue with mine.

Might make a couple of changes before you swap this out and have the same problem. A baffel works well getting the heat directed out and taper the chin block some to open up discharge aera. Done right and this engine will cool fine in this plane. Leroy

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
Bdsbob: Here you go. A few comments:
1. The gear, wheels, and retract cover were totally installed and working before i started on the gear doors.
2. The gear door hinges have superglue and screws to hold them in place.
3. I followed the Robart Gear Door Bracket Installation Instructions that are on one of their 622-5SP drawings. I think I started with some soft wire to get the approximate size and shape, then switched to music wire.
4. The wire I used is between 1/16" and 2mm. Don't remember the actual size, but it fit snugly in the Sierra door bracket.
5. The installed gear door almost touched the ground. I cut a section off for clearance as you see in the pics.
Overall, it really wasn't any more difficult that the TF method. Seems to be holding up well.
I am sure there are prettier, more elegant installs, but this one is working for me.
Any more questions, let me know.
Brian

Aghost-
The gear doors are one of the last things I need to install.
Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures! This is a big help for me!
My P-51 build (assemble):
ZDZ-80
Keleo Scale Exhaust
Sierra Main gear.
JR 8611A servos on Flaps and Ailerons
Hitec Digital servos on Elevator and rudder.
Wing strengthening modifications.
Jersey Modeler Fueling System.
JR 9503 Transmitter
Spektrum 9020 Receiver.
A123 batteries for ignition and receiver power.
I hope to be in the air in the next 2 weeks.

I didnt think that a ZDZ 80 would fit in the 1/5th scale air frame very good. I'vegot my ZDZ 80 in my giant scale planes P-51. That engine makes that big bird scream. I cant imagine it in a smaller Mustang. I do want to try and get a keleo exhuast for that engine though.

HOPEFULLY YOU REINFORCED FIRE WALL/ENGINE MOUNT AREA especially if your running an 80cc engine!!!!!! not much hot glue up there. they have been know to fail and and eng. becomes an unguided missile.
