RE: Yellow Aircraft F-16C EDF Build
I have a video uploading now, but basically I spent the weekend getting the top half of the fuselage painted. Here's a sneak peak:

RE: Yellow Aircraft F-16C EDF Build
After months of trying to figure out how I could attach the nose SECURELY without the use of screws, latches or anything unsightly here is what I have come up with (I know I know… you're probably going to say "It took you months to figure that out?! LOL). It is a hybrid physical/magnetic attachment solution. The nose will go on EXACTLY the same every time and it should look as though there is only a panel line where it connects when I'm done.
The nice thing is that it will be strong enough that it won't come off in flight, but should I dig the nose in it should break off, hopefully sparing the rest of the fuselage or at the very least minimizing damage.

Love the build so far. I am looking at buying one of these kits so this will be a great help if I do. I live in portland so may have to come out and fly with you sometime. I really like how you did the nosecone mods to put the air fillers in the nose, very clean.

I have not affiliated myself offically with any club in the area as I am not home enough to fly regularly enough to be required to join lol. I drive an 18 wheeler all 48 states and am home about once a month. This year I was home TWICE!!!!! Went to 7 differnt flying events across the country though so getting my fix as often as time allows.

I used to fly at the Vancouver fairgrounds a bit as well as with a few guys from Molalla. Really like the field in Banks as it is a very well done site with really nice freindly members.

Still plugging along. I have secured the tail-cone to fuse. I had to first re-paint the "chrome" ring just before the turkey feathers due to my leaving tape on it for too long. It pulled the paint off and left several ugly spots. Check out the video for the process I used to secure the tailbone without using screws on the outside.

My goal now is to bust butt to get it ready for more taxi tests this weekend. Rumor has it the weather will be dry at least part of the weekend.

Ok, time to start getting ready for the next taxi test. I'm giving myself 2 nights (Thursday and Friday) to complete. First on the agenda… Thrust tube support in the tail. It's time to retire the popsicle sticks!

I have in the past missed locktite on some things and had it cost me dearly. Glad you caught that before the maiden. If it goes into metal locktite it. Even the screws in the servo output shafts. I also have used a dab of silicone on the output shaft screws after installing them with good results and it's easier to remove them later.

Putting the thrust tube back in, sealing things up and making sure they're centered:

RE: Yellow Aircraft F-16C EDF Build
This is my first attempt using canopy glue. It was a little bit of work (lack of experience) but once I got to know the glue it worked out pretty good. I found that what I was trying to avoid in the first place (glue seeping to the finished surface) actually produced the best results once I wiped it away with a damp cloth. I started thinking of it sort of like caulking.
Ok, enough chit chat. It's time to get going to the flying field for some taxi tests! Woohoo!

Yeah the stuff dries clear but dries slow. Don't know of anything better myself. I just know not to ca as it will fog the canopy lol.

Here are some of the taxi tests/brake tests. Overall things went very well. It tracks much straighter than last time, even though I will still need to adjust the nose wheel a little to the left. For these tests I just adjusted the trim on the rudder.
To test the brakes I would run the plane about 1/4 power for short bursts then hit full brake. Seems to stop pretty good. It was very tempting to just gun it and fly away!
Ok, enough chit chat. Check out the video:

Ok, I woke up and needed to do "something" more to my plane before I can go back to sleep. I decided to permanently glue the rear canopy "glass" on. I had to prop up the "glass with sticks and a washcloth, but all the surfaces are touching the fuselage and I had a good glue ooze (remember, think caulking). I think it will work out well. About a half hour of wiping with damp cloth and babysitting. I'm going back to sleep now!

Here's my post Thanksgiving update. The weather has been crap on the weekends so I haven't gotten to fly the CBM F-16 any more.

Merry Christmas Eve! Here's some sloppy servo swapping action as well as making nice flush mounted servo hatch covers! I even got to use my pin vice for the first time!
