Default How do I remove the head from a YS 140L engine

Hi guys:
I want to remove the head from my YS 140L engine as I do not have compression. I am suspecting one of the valves is stuck.
Thanks.

You will need to be more detailed in your question.....it's bolted down with five bolts....unbolt in a criss/cross pattern, you will need to remove the rocker/arm/shaft to access two of the bolts......

Before removing the head I would recommend checking the movement of the valves by removing the rocker arm cover
and see if the valves are moving freely by simply pushing them down with a fingertip when they are in the closed position.

Good luck,

The valves appartently move freely up and down. There is a great deal of carbon build-up as far as I can tel by looking into the exhaust port. However I believe the valves or one is not sealing properly as I do ot have any compression. The problem I'm having is I do not know how to remove the intake tube from the engine.

The intake tube is held in place with a pair of 'O' rings at each end.
You need to remove the back plate/ carb body then pull with
a twisting motion on the intake tube straight out from the head.
Here is a exploded view of the 140-L engine.
When re assembling, I recommend using new 'O' rings as old ones
may leak.
Also be sure the valves are adjusted correctly. .002", two thousandths clearence.
YS engines are sensitive to leaks internally and externally.

Not trying to be condescending.

If you are going to clean the valves and seats be EXTREMELY
careful not to damage the seats.
Be thorough in cleanliness when working on these engines as mistakes
can be costly.
If you are not familiar with YS engines I recommend sending them to
Richard at YS service in Minden, Nevada.

OK I got it. I didn't think to remove the backplate, thought I could do it without removing it.

Thanks.

You can.....the intake pipe will simply lift "Straight Up" out of the carb.....leave it installed in the head.....
