Are the wheels and spinner included or do we need to purchase these items separately?

Wheels and spinner are included! Retracts and struts are not.

What engine was the prototype flown with? Possibly a DLE 20 can be squeezed in?

I really like the scheme. This one does actually look pretty good and could prove to be a good throw around warbird.

Well praise the lord and pass the servo-extensions!!! finally a decent .60 size Axis ARF...Nice job on the spinner too.
I hope to see a 190A/D or even Hiyate/ or the like sometime down the road.
The pic shows an odd muffler protruding form a hacked cowl -(note my comments are not a negative commentary- just an observation that that beauty of a cowl was slided wide open when I'm sure there are other gasoline options that wouldn't have caused such extreme surgery- leading me to believe it was a new G20 by Zenoah (ZP20/ ZENEP20).
I'm inclined to believe that a DLE20 with a pitts warp around would do the job nicely.
The horizon webpage allows the manual for this bird to be downloaded. it looks to me like it could easily happen with minor firewall modifications.

I'm very happy this plane is slated to be available and will hope that anyone who has non-scale things to say about it will refrain until they are posting their build. For now I hope that Horizon and other manufacturers see the positive feedback as a sign that it's oKay to sell Axis fighters now and more will become available on the market.

Link to Hangar 9's advertising: http://www.hangar-9.com/Products/Def...ProdID=HAN2785

It's good to see an Axis warbird. We need something for the Thunderbolt and P51 to fight. Hopefully the flyins will get a bit more interesting.

As for worrying about H9 being insulted... this is the internet, and they should already be used to it. Otherwise they wouldn't be marketing planes that have such obvious scale flaws. They seemed to weather the F6F's bright blue tail and..... a number of things like that. Heck, this is not only the internet, but there aren't a lot of potential purchasers nowadays who would have any idea what the right colors are for a 109 etc etc.

As for the awful choice of muffler for the bird in their "advertising", that might tell us something about whomever is really in charge of supplying this market. It also might tell us something about the part of our hobby that uses gasoline. And about today's market over all, what it'll overlook. It's doubtful a purple 109 with a lousy choice of muffler will turn off many modelers nowadays. And it's pretty obvious that fatal flaws on scale models roll off today's modelers like water off a ducks back. It'll do fine as is.

The way I see it, it'll provide what the F6F did, something easily fixed (by the old timers) to be what they wanted but only got 90%. I enjoyed correcting my Hellcat. Probably like it better now than any other of the H9s in my hangar.

-Now if they could only get the price closer to that of the Hellcat or Spitfire. It's about $100. more than their earlier birds- granted, this does have flaps and a beautiful spinner.

It's just that this price puts them in a bracket with bigger and controversially better birds such as the old KMP/ ESM lineup that are 1.20-1.80 size. I just hope that beauties like this don't widen the gap of those who have and have not due to price.

I agree. At the price point they have it at now I would just go for the 30cc sized birds from ESM or CMP.

If Tower does a couple more ARFs like they just did with the TF Corsair, selling a flapped 60 size warbird with built up tail surfaces for $200 !! ............... (wasn't that cheaper than the kit?)

It could be the high priced ARFs are going to be hard to sell.

For $350, I will pass and I have been in the market for a 109 for awhile now. I love the service that Horizon provides, but for that money, it is still a film covered sport scale plane. At least the ESM stuff is painted.
Looks like I will investigate buidling a Brian Taylor 109. More money in the long run I am sure, and LOTS more time, but infinitely more pride and satisfaction in the final product.

I think that was cheaper than the kit, and I have a feeling that those sales are going to be a more common thing seeing as how the economy shows no sign of improving any time soon. []

I sure wish they could get away from the plastic coverings. There is just no way for them to look nice over the long haul. The wrinkly plastic look is not for me. I guess since these companies sell Ultrakote and Monkeykote, they are still promoting it in some way. Maybe it is still the cheapest and fastest way to manufacture. I do not know, but I would prefer to not have plastic coverings.

The moment I discovered Solartex, I took all my Monokote and Ultrakote and threw it in the trash. The plastic coverings might be really nice on a 3D plane, but not on a warbird.

This one from Hangar9 actually does NOT have the typical monokote, ultracote, plasti-cote whatever whatever on it. It uses that pre-printed wall-paper "like" stuff that VQ and Black Horse likes to use. Hangar9 utilized this covering on their new Blue-Nose P-51 also. I don't know what they call it, but it does offer a more flat finish. I'm luke warm on it myself, but I bet it takes paint better than the ultracote finish.

For those complaining about the price.....have you done a side by side comparison to the ESM plane?
$350 for H9 ME-109 with spinner and scale looking tires.

$309 for ESM me-109E. No spinner...extra cost of 59.95. Wheels in kit are cheapy foam so you'd end up buying a different set for more money. Scale appearance would require Glennis at close to $199 for a set. Plane requires 4-4.5" wheels. You could get away with williams bros for about $30
Total=399.
Retracts.....esm electrics are $229

Plus, you have to pay shipping for an ESM plane from VQ or troybuilt. $80 for shipping...so now even without retracts, the plane costs $479

Buy whatever you want. I actually OWN 2 of the esm me-109s as well as several other ESM warbirds.
The H9 ME-109F at $350 isnt that bad. I just bought a H9 spitfire just for a knock around bird and it was $259 plus spinner of $59 from Dbproducts. Thats $320 so its not far off from the me-109 at 350. Scale looking tires for the Spit would add even more....so basically on par more or less.

I for one am grateful H9 came to market with this .60 size AXIS plane. A good number of us have been clamoring for one for quite some time now.

Wow this si really great from H9.
Price is a issue though @$350 without Retracts which will cost another $100.
The ESM seems more attractive once all the extras are thrown in and its a glass ship.

Still it nice and I'm considering it but will likely end up with the ESM

If I may add, don't forget about the ESM price increase next month advertised by Troybuiltmodels on all ESM planes. Need to factor that in as well.

Here's another analysis based on what I did with my plane.

The CMP 109F is currently priced at $260 from Nitroplanes. Using the 6% price pickle coupon that comes to $244. Shipping to my zip is $40. Or, just do what I did and pick the plane up at the Todelo Show and save the shipping costs. I used a Dave Platt spinner for $60 shipped, which brings the total to $304. There is simply no way that I would ever pay for Glennis wheels, and I don't think most peope are going to go that route either. I used ESM 4" wheels at first, but didn't like them because they were too heavy. I ended up using some 4" Sullivans that I painted black. Looks good enough and i think they were about $30 from my LHS. So now we're at $334, or $374 if you have to pay for shipping.

The retact cost is really a wash since they aren't included with either plane. You can use the E-Flite 120 sized gear on either plane, although you need to build the CMP plane light if you go that way. So for the worst case scenario let's assume you use the E-Flites ($170) for the H9 plane, and some variety of ESMs ($229) that are modded to fit the CMP. That's a difference of $59.

As far as engines go, I would use gassers for both. DLE 20 ($250) for the H9 and a beam mount NGH 35 ($259) for the CMP. That's pretty much a wash as well.

In the end, it only cost me $68 more to build the CMP plane. It's really a matter of personal preference. I think the H9 plane will be a much easier plane to fly and transport. Another HUGE benefit to the plane is the availablility of spare parts. This is a factor that I have learned to consider when buying planes. My CMP 109 is actually grounded indefinitely now because of a busted wing that I can't get a replacement for. [:@] I haven't flown the plane since October. [:@][:@][:@] Food for thought.

I also have the CMP me-109. Nice plane, but builds heavy just like the esm. Your definitely right about spare parts. Ive bought 3 kits over the years because spare parts werent available and only way to get parts is buy a new kit.
Ive got one in flyable condition and enough parts to piece together a frankenscmitt. This plane does not take well to engine failures. I am sure the H9 me-109 would fair MUCH better in an engine out situation as it is a lot lighter and probably would be able to glide a good deal. Im not saying CMP. ESM or H9 versions are better then the others, but each may have an advantage in some area. H9 being light, CMP having a removeable chin scoop, ESM being the most scale looking.

The covering on both the Blue Nose Mustang and the new Bf-109F is screen-printed Ultracote. No resemblance to "...wall-paper 'like' stuff..." :-)

Oh man are you right about the horrible tendencies of that plane in an engine out situation. The snaps are so sudden and violent, and most of the time it's at an airspeed where you thought for sure that the plane should still be flying. From what I've learned, if you ever have a dead stick with the CMP 109, you better just keep the wings level and fly straight ahead into whatever is out there. The damage will likely be less severe than the carnage that will result from a snap/spin scenario.
